Talking What kind of XK is this?

Hello,

My mom's husband is no longer driving, and wants to give me his jaguar xk, I believe from either 2008 or 2009. The only problem is that I am in the US, and he is in France. Will it be possible to import the car into the US?

Also, what model is this car exactly? XK? XKR? 2008? 2009?

Here are some pics of the car, and the door jamb sticker with what I believe to be pertinent info.

Thank you!

You think the car might have originated in US? Or it was released in 2007 in US... And maybe a year later in Europe? I am just grasping at straws. My step father said it was a 2009. I think some docs he sent me say it came into "matriculation" in july of 2008. I do not really read french, though.

Actually, I think I see from this car and driver article that the 2007 has an actual rear antenna sticking up. 2008 they concealed antenna in spoiler.

Cool! Thank you for leading me to this article.

Interesting, it is correct that for US models the 07 had the post antenna (which yours doesn't seem to have) and 08 and 09 had the hidden antenna, yet only the 07 had the winged front grill (which yours does that).

Ah, check out this 2008. It has the winged grill. But other 2008s do not have it. interesting.

It looks like the XKRs from 2008 had no wing, and the XKs from 2008 did have the wing.

Definitely an XK, not XKR (no hood vents, no quad exhaust tips).

?? But you have the VIN. That tells you everything about the car. Log into topix and provide your vin.

XK 4.2, n.a., either 2008 or early 2009 production year.
No rear antenna rules out 2007.

How do you tell the difference between a 2008 and 2009 4.2L X150 since they're identical on the outside? It's easy when you're comparing Portfolio models because all 2008s were Celestial Black and all 2009s were Shadow Grey. It's a little more difficult for non-Portfolio models, as they are visually identical on the outside - but they're different on the inside.

You can tell the difference by looking in the rear of the center armrest for a panel with USB and iPod sockets. That Audio Connectivity Module (ACM) for iPods was introduced in the final model year of 4.2L production. Here's mine:

The black Scosche device connected to my old iPod enables it to play and charge simultaneously. I can control the song choice and volume from the steering wheel rotary controls and the touchscreen. Sure, it's ancient compared to today's Apple Car play, but it's good enough for me to listen to all the music I like.

Note that a dealer-installed ACM was introduced as an accessory for the 2008 and 2007 models. It's not exactly the same appearance as the 2009.

Unfortunately, a car that was not manufactured to US regulatory standards would have to be at least 25 years old in order to import to the US without significant efforts. It can be done, but does involve extra efforts and costs:

VIN position 10 is 8 = MY2008
VIN position 11 is 4 = 3.5 V8

The 3.5 was a limited edition for continental Europe released as the coupe in summer 2007 followed by an extension to the limited numbers with the cabrio in 2008. These cars din't have the rear wing antenne but did have the winged grille. First registrations for the cabrios would probably have been 2008 or 2009.

The VIN says it was built for the "Rest of the World", so certified for European standards. There might be no difference but it does not have US approval, so importing would be more involved if at all possible.

The VIN itself doesn't contain any other interesting info but Jaguar France could probably provide you with the build sheet specifying the equipment originally fitted. What info are you looking for? There are some reviews on the web which introduce the model in general.
