Default What to look for in a 2007 XKR convertible with 60k miles?

Going to look at 2007 XKR convertible with 60,000 miles tomorrow at the local jaguar dealer,
If it checks out and they give me a decent trade on my 99 XK I plan on buying it.
Cosmetically besides dash lifting and convertible rear glass separation anything else I should look for?
Mechanically besides obvious like leaks, weird sounds, erratic shifting, what should I look for?
Thanks!

You are looking at a used car that is over 13 years old and the list of things to look at is too long to post here. Rubber parts deteriorate over time and fluids need to be replaced. The simple way to do your due diligence is to pay a Jaguar dealer or qualified indy Jaguar mechanic to do it for you. They can use the same checklist that a Jaguar dealer must use to determine if a used Jaguar qualifies for the Jaguar Certified Pre-Owned Warranty. Be sure to get a list of recommended mechanical repairs including the costs to negotiate a lower price from the seller. A Jaguar-approved body shop qualified to do aluminum repairs can tell you if that car has had any paint or body work.

Know what you're buying. You can't trust the seller.

Have the same thing, same mileage, have owned it for a year and a half here is what is wrong with mine.

passenger seat back won't go forward. needs dealer to re set.
Little cover for the convertible drop broke so it doesn't close . I think part is around 400 bucks I eventually will do it
I have a PO430 code that I haven't sussed out yet. next time at mechanics I am going to have him install a spacer.
Small issues as far as I am concerned, other than that a great car.

P0430 is 90% the cat on bank 2 is a mess and needs replacement. BUT, should do both cats at the same time.
10% that either the O2 sensor is messing up, or something else obscure.

not o2's swapped them from side to side, changed plugs and they were fine, could be a tiny exhaust leak , maf , ecu who knows. Car runs fine and has 57 k on it. Not convinced its a cat and not prepared to put new cats on, won't be factory when I do it.

I've gotten a P0430 a couple times now, car runs fine and it only happens like once a year. If I EVER get this garage built and a lift installed, I'll check stuff like Cat Heat and such.

@Cee Jay , which reminds me... If I use Sunoco Ultra 94, I may throw the dreaded P0430, when I punch it... However, if I use Shell V-power nitro, it doesn't throw. Interesting.

Aside from the obvious stuff you need to check out on a car this age (especially, service history, invoices etc), make sure everything works as it should. Push every button, check every item on the info screen, check all lights for proper operation, check every moving part such as glove box door, sun visors, centre console box and so forth. I say this because things which might be trivial to fix on lesser cars can cost a lot to fix on our Jaguars. A replacement headlight unit is thousands of dollars new. A replacement key is hundreds of dollars. If the seat doesn't move the way it should, a fix can be difficult to identify and cost a lot to put right. Do the folding mirrors fold? The one that always gets me is the sun visor - these cost hundreds of dollars to replace! You get the idea. Check everything you can find and ensure it works as it should - if not, find out the price for the fix and negotiate the selling price.

Look for signs of a caring and careful PO - are the alloys scuffed or pristine? Is the under bonnet (hood) area clean and tidy? Is the boot (trunk) likewise? XK and XKRs, especially the 4.2 you are looking at, are reliable, well-made vehicles and if you get a good one it will give you years of pleasure at very sensible costs for maintenance and repairs (from a reliable Indie). Good luck! If you buy the car, you can be sure that the collective experience of the guys on this forum will always be at the end of your keyboard! They are a terrific, knowledgeable and helpful bunch of people.

Bingo! I found an ATM card! I called the previous owner who laughed it off and asked me to keep an eye out for his wife's missing drivers license.

Unhappy

You might check to see if the AC is draining properly. Bobby Rahal wants $1200 bucks to open my drain.

That reminded me of when my wife lost her Neiman Marcus card. I decided to not report it because the woman who found it was charging less on it than my wife was!
