What is your MPG?
#21
I just completed a longer trip - about 250 miles to my destination, then 250 miles back home at the end of the weekend. I filled up at the start of each leg and again right at the end. The trip consisted of an hour or more of really bad traffic when in the San Francisco Bay Area, then mostly highway miles driven at 75 to 80 MPH or thereabouts. Much of the trip was on CA Highway 5, so that's a rather leisurely pace, but I definitely wasn't hypermiling. I calculated mileage by using Google Maps to measure miles driven, and the gas pump to measure the amount of fuel consumed.
Average mileage was quite a bit higher than I expected: 26.5 MPG. I'd call that a rather pleasant surprise.

In my 650 I consistently beat everyones MPG...on the low side. I always averaged around 12.5, it seems the Wife and I both have lead feet. Everyone else had much better MPG, usually 18 mpg or so.
I reset my counter when I first got my XK. Here is my average, happily I have beat my personal best low score set on my 650. Since I drive mostly with Sport Mode engaged, Trac On, and tranny in S mode I guess I am in full gas guzzler mode. No problem, I didn't buy a Prius.

What is your MPG?

I expected the smaller displacement 4.2L engine to get better mileage than the larger 5.0L. Atlanta is very hilly so I must be driving the XKR only uphill and the XJ only downhill.

P.S. Seriously, the 5.0L engine with direct injection, massive low-end torque, and the 8-speed tranny usually runs under 1500 rpms around town, but the XKR runs at much higher rpms given the same speed.

A new low
Traffic! Ugh! It took me 2hours and 15 min to get home from work. About an hour into it my MPG was 6.9!!!!! I ended the drive at around 13 it was not a fun drive today. I would rather the 13mpg be from throwing her in sport mode and having some fun. NJ is not a fun place. It is overcrowded. I need to move. Only good thing about NJ is our gas prices are low... Seeing as I need to fill up my tank in the morning, lol.

Did a 6000 mile trip with my XK this summer. Average speed was 60 mph. Average gas mileage was 26.5 mpg. I am running Bridgestone low rolling resistance tires, which in my experience with other cars nets about 0.5-1.0 mpg. I do monitor gas tank range on fill up. Usually, this car is driven in town almost exclusively by my wife. She averages about 18 mpg. and gets some 350 estimated per tank. On this trip the XK seemed to loosen up with miles - my estimated range kept increasing to the point where it was a bit over 500 miles. I usually drive 70-85, about over speed limit. City rush hour traffic just kills gas mileage. Stumbling through Portland rush hour reduced average gas mileage on this 6K trip by 1mpg overall.

Looks like MPG is all over depending on driving style and conditions. We have yet to take a nice long road trip so don't have a read on higher end of the reading.
I hear you, traffic like that does blow.
