Slight thread hijack, but also pertains to painting wheels...
I have the stock Caravelas and have been contemplating some kind of color change. What I really like are 2-tone wheels. Looking at the Caravelas, it doesn't appear that they would be a good candidate for this, but I have no experience with this, so I'm not sure. Any thoughts on this?
The 12 point stud bolts are exactly that they are real and a nightmare to remove as they have lock-tite my suggestions from experience is to leave them in and paint over them
Since I didn’t do it myself, it was easy. The shop I took mine to, removed the studs before powder coating the wheels, and then reinstalled them.
@ carealtor,
Just googled those wheels and didn't find any examples being 2-tone. Why not print up a photo of your wheels and hand color over it to see what it might look like?
Viper its all about the picture you have in your mind.
Yes chrome looks blingy on cheap cars.
But on money-no-object cars its the only option!
Here is a car made in the factory I use. (they spent 1.5mill on it) https://www.classicarnews.com/2016/0...t-8-selection/
Your car and its paint color, straddles that line beautifully where classic meets modern. You have really high tech wheels that do the same with chrome.
It may look out of place in a sea of VW cars, but go to a car show or assisted living facility and you will kill. (lol) Seriously, looks rich to those that matter.
When this car was first debuted and the cat's meow, I saw it at Alpine Jaguar in Palm Beach. On the second story showroom they had only one car in the middle of the massive room, it had wire wheels on it. Still one of the best XK I have ever seen. (and I dont like wire wheels)

As has been alluded to many time in this thread, opinions are like a$$holes--everybody is one, I mean has one. What really matters is yours. But since you asked, here's mine:
I was not initially enthralled by the flashy chrome wheels, much less the chrome around the front intakes. I was however, happy the '11s didn't come with chromed side vents--sorry, I know some of you see those as a mark of distinction. That said, I very quickly got used to the chrome and now enjoy it thoroughly--especially after a wash. I agree not all body colors are enhanced by chrome wheels, but I feel Claret is one that is nicely set off by them. The optional 19" Artura chrome wheels our original owner sprung for are the foundation for the chrome trim on the rest of the car--the front vents, the grill, the rear flash, window trim--even the silver headlight reflectors all seem to coordinate for a classic look. For me chrome on Black seems too harsh. On White it gets lost and looks like you're trying too hard. The rich dark colors like Claret and BRG seem to me to wear it well. I hope by now you are closer to making up your mind. Good Luck!
OK, so here's an idea. Get some of that cheap Removable PlastiKote paint and paint your wheels whatever (white to improve top coat?) color with that, then use some good paint of whatever colors you are considering and paint over that PlastiKote paint so you can actually SEE that color on those wheels while on your car. Course you can paint all four wheels whatever colors and you can see all four at the same time.
The top coat and base coats will peel right off.

This is certainly one of the best and cheapest answers for 'trying' various looks.
Instructions for painting rims with Plasti-Dip are easily found on Youtube, and surprisingly enough, if done right, it holds up for a very, very long time.
The older Jags didn’t have chrome. The majority of the shiny bits were polished stainless steel. All of the trim on my XJ40 is stainless steel, the wheels are polished alloys with black paint in the dark areas.
What Brand are the wheels I've often been tempted to go down from my 20s to 19s to improve the ride and have also contemplated painting my calipers yellow (currently gloss black)
