Wheel & Tire warranty-good experience
I purchased a W&T warranty with my XKR from the Jag dealer in SC where I found her. It's a 7 year from contract purchase, unlimited miles, zero deductible, cost was $900.
I got the rear left wheel gouged few months back, and finally decided to put this warranty to the test. Not sure how it happened, does not look to me like a road rash or curb damage, but almost like someone took a screwdriver to the rim. Could have been inflicted at the car wash , but can not prove.
Dropped her at my local Jag dealer. They gave me a loaner, kept my XKR for 2 days and got the rim perfectly repaired. Zero charge for me.
Here is the pic of the damaged rim before repair.

7 years for $900 is a steal. No brainer. I had a 3 year on my XE for $1200 and replaced 6 tires and repaired rims almost as many times. Rims got bent easily and Cintaurato tires would bubble if you stared at them hard enough. Paid of itself big time! I also have the policy on our XC60 and one plus year in haven't needed to use it.
When I bought my XE, the sales manager said to get it and before that I never had an issue with bubbles or damaged rims... One month in the first bubble and damaged rim... I bought it after that. He moves to Volvo and said I did not need on the XC60.... I got after being spooked on the XE and go figure he was right again.

Since it went smoothly, I have very minor road rash or scratches on the other rims (inherited with the car), which I may or may not wait to have fixed.
Looking back in the last 9 years with my other various DD Jaguars (driven ~15,000 mi/yr), I experienced 2 tire sidewall balloon, one tire sidewall blowout, 2 bent rims, one cracked rim (all paid out of pocket to put right).

For low profile tires and painted rims I say no brainer. I have a 5 year $900 or so plan from IAS that includes tire and rim. Had one tire replaced because of pothole damage...a complete rupture of tire. No questions asked.
I also have had rim rash repaired at least 7 times, going in for the 8th trip in a couple weeks. Zero deductible.
With my previous bmw I had IAS that was 5 year $1200 and I replaced 3 forged rims and 5 runflat ties. Around $7000!

Keep in mind that if you get your tires from TireRack you usually get 2 year warranty for free. I had a nail in my tire after 18 months, took it to a shop, they said they are not allowed to repair (nail was 2" from sidewall), I called TireRack and they send me a new tire. TireRack does not offer it for all tires, but they did for Michelin Pilot 4S.

i don't buy new cars as a rule, the one time i did was ultimately dissatisfying, but i think if i did i would just remove and store the factory wheels for seven years rather than buy one of these contracts. four plain aftermarket wheels to put on the car will also run you close to $900 these days, perhaps a bit more, and while you're out and about banging them up your factory wheels are probably appreciating in real terms.

That's an interesting idea, but it would make better sense if you removed the OEM tires and had them installed on the new, inexpensive aftermarket wheels. Those tires should be used, not stored. Tires degrade over time, and after 7 years they might not be safe regardless of tread depth.

never heard of that, but, good to know!
that's because they routinely mark these products up 2-3 times over cost. i used to work in the field of automotive data and was privy to thousands of these kinds of aftermarket insurance sales, not just T&W. thousands of people get taken for a ride, every month. would recommend to all such buyers, reach out to discover whether you know anyone who knows anyone in F&I, and see if you can get a fair deal through your connection.
