Default Who makes the filter

Who makes the oil filters for the 5.0l S/C engine. I realize there are aftermarket brands but was wondering who supplies to Jaguar. I guess I also don't know why they went to an insert type filter. It seemed like several car mfg's went with insert type filters over the years and some have switched back to spin on. I think it was because of the eco-types that they moved away from the metal can types. Also out of the several mfg's who make the replacement is there any brand that is better then another. Seems like the prices range from $25 to $90 . I had the same question with the Ferrari where they used UFI and through discussions with my Fcar site everyone was using Baldwin at 1/3 the price and the filter was better.

I believe the 2012 OEM oil filter is a "Mann" filter. You can also consider a "Wix" brand filter, cost about $35.00

I've used NAPA Wix for years BUT recently discovered that the 'Wix' for my 'o7 XK had a much narrower gasket when compared to OEM. Returned it to NAPA and bought Jag OEM for about $20............. my Fife Jag dealer always gives me a Jag Club discount; disappointed in Wix!

Cheers, Adrian

Just an FYI here but the 5.0L engine uses a cartridge type filter as opposed to the 4.2L spin on filter. Why they did this I do not know and if they had a spin on conversion kit I would get it.

JAGTOES,
That's a step backwards to XKE days; haven't heard of a 'spin on' conversion.
I did try one for the XKE but returned it because of a design flaw (not enough treads engaged in the main attachment bolt!).
Jaguar has never heard of 'continuous improvement', other examples: 5.0 L water pumps, fuel filler & speedo on wrong side (OK on XK8) for it's main market(US)......

Try looking on UK web sites.................Jag forums.

Good Luck, Adrian

Hi,
I too went to the spin-on for my E-Type. Haven't had any "thread" problems. Perhaps, a different vendor version?

Ken,
Can't remember vender (think it was a Forum member!) I was only person who was unhappy (an **** retired Boeing engineer!). The center piece was stainless steel and only 2 or 3 threads would engage. SS is not as strong as steel & you need at least 6 -8 threads engaged IMHO. No problem getting refund...............this was for for my '68 Coupe; since sold to a friend, he's still using the canister but hates the gasket; don't we all! Even when I had almost new XKE's that gasket was always a pain.
Just monitor your oil pressure gauge................40 psi (25 at idle).

Cheers, Adrian

I bet the GT3 car uses remote oil filters which require an adapter where the spin on filter goes. Unfortunately I don't know or haven't seen if someone is racing the 5.0L engine. If they were I would bet they have an adapter to run the lines from. It most likely wouldn't be to difficult to design and built an adapter out of aluminum just to bad no one has done it.
