Default Window separating from Convertible top

Happy Father's Day guys! Seems like the rear window has separated form the convertible top. Any suggestions on the best fix? I've looked at YouTube videos ad-nausea. I ordered suction cup clamps from Amazon but unsure of the best adhesive to use.

I recommend Rhino Glue. I'll post the DIY link.

See the "How To" / DIY Repair & Maintenance "Sticky" at the top of this Forum, and scroll down to 3. Convertible Top Rear Window Repair. It's an easy DIY fix if the window hasn't completely fallen out.

There are many threads on this subject. Just Google "Jaguar X150 Forums Window in Convertible Top.

That's what the button on the bottom right corner of your post is for.

Doesn't that option only appear once the member has like 50 or more posts?

I defer to your expertise, as I don't know.

update.... It seems that the rear window has completely separated for the canvas top. Looks like a new top will be in the works. How durable are the DYI repairs? How long do they last before separating again? Im thinking of doing a color change on the top from black on white body to burgundy on white body.

You can buy a new top if you wish, but at this point if you are willing to scrap it all what can it hurt to attempt the repair? If it takes fine, if not you proceed with your plan. My window was 75% detached and has been rock solid after repair in 2019, I raise and lower it all the time and it is in the abusive Florida heat. Stuart was in what, 2017 by looking at the DIY repair. If the remaining 25% of my glass detached I would have no problem with 100% Rhino solution.

Credit Stuart for researching and applying to the Jaguar, but simply google Rhino Glue Convertible Top Repair and you will see where his research came up with this, there are other forums that have been using this going back nearly 15 years. This is not new by any stretch, you should feel comfort in the stability of this repair.

I know color choice is very subjective, we saw a Mercedes with that white/burgundy color combo and not a fan. But if you like it go for it.

FYI, my reattached convertible top rear window is still holding up well. Rhino Glue works!

I just finished my repair this weekend, had both bottom corners with the exception of the middle third of the bottom. Followed Stuart's and others inputs using the clamps and Rhino glue and it went well, Just take your time and do it in small increments. Only thing I did differently is I made a small wooden jig (1/4" luan panel) that I made fitted the corners and 1/2 way along the bottom and up the side to the top corner. I found this made it simpler and quicker to set it in place.

I also left the top totally closed while gluing.

Only had one issue when I did the first section I lost control and to much glue came out and drip onto the headliner so be careful on the application a little goes along way.

Thanks to every one that inputted to that thread it was most beneficial.

We are contemplating how long we will keep this 13MY (had it since 12/2015, since it is the last of this model and if we do plan to hang on to it for a long haul then a new top will be in the scheme of things I'm sure.

I think the durability of the DIY repair depends on how bad it is/how much material is left to adhere. I started the process too late and my repairs did not hold (but did buy me 6 months). If you are planning on redoing the top no harm in trying anything. I had my top redone this year and it was just under $3k installed for the Gahh and reusing my headliner. Looks great, and has a lifetime window warranty.

was it a factory original top? I’ve been presented with an aftermarket top with a 5 yr warranty. I think I’m going to have a direct payment by insurance and shop around.

What caused your rear window to fail? Was it damaged by vandalism, a falling object, fire, or a collision? If not, how is your top covered by insurance?

I am unaware of any auto insurance policies (including extended service contracts) that cover normal wear and tear items such as brakes and batteries unless damaged in a collision or covered under the Comprehensive coverage.

Rear window separation usually is considered to be a normal wear and tear item.

See Post #3, above. That "How To"/DIY Sticky thread includes step-by-step detailed instructions with photos. Read that entire sticky convertible top thread.

I successfully used black 3M 5200 and it has held up perfectly for two years. Top still goes up and down with no window separation at all. The 5200 remains a little flexible and holds up very well.

I'm glad that 3M adhesive worked for you. It didn't work for me.

My first attempt at this repair was with that 3M adhesive, and it failed after a few months. It was messy and took a long time to scrape enough off so I could reattach the rear glass with Rhino Glue.

See Post #3, above, for the "How To" / DIY Repair & Maintenance" Sticky Thread for the Convertible Top Rear Window Repair. Most Forum members have successfully used Rhino Glue because it's clear, easy to use, dries quickly, and lasts.

It's your car, your money and your choice.
