Default Window tint question

Just got a new to me 2008 XK. Asked a window tinting company about installing tint. If I do, it will likely be 3M ceramic. They said most European cars need to have a special felt installed on the door panel to prevent scratching the film. Does anyone have experience with this. It’s a nominal adder ($25 per door) to have this done. But I’m not sure I want them messing with the door panels. Thoughts?

I have had the windows tinted on two of my XK's. No felt was ever even suggested by the installer in either case. Each of the two cars have been driven 5 years with no scratches occurring.

I have the Crystaline. I LOVE it.
No, I don't have fancy felt installed.
I do have a scratch, but that was from a chair that I moved and the chair leg was scraping against the window.
Get a different tint installer. That's BS.

Oh and just had a tint done on my XF sportbrake done by a new shop.
Guess what? No one suggested felt.

Keep your window seals clean so the glass doesn't get scratched by dirt embedded in the seal as the window moves up and down. It's a known problem.

I do this on ALL my vehicles, for the past 45 years. I've seen side glass so scratched that nothing discernible could be seen through it.

Default Window Tint question

I rolled them down today, and ran my hand along the inner seal edge... feels fine to me, not dirty, and doesn't seem like it would scratch a good quality film.

Thanks to all who replied.
