Wow that Jaguar XJS kept you young. I suppose there is always a brighter side to misery.
I am half your age and I cannot imagine being that advanced to get the latest code reader, app, and getting on forums in 45 years from now.
You are an inspiration. Thanks for showing us the future.

I'm going to take it to a shop (Wilson Enterprises, Brea CA) early next week to see if they can sort it. When I talked to Jeff Wilson he said that some OBD2 devices don't do a good job of clearing codes.

Also, just what kind of a switch is it? I mean, if it was an old fashioned mechanical switch activated by the pedal I could understand that behavior. But I would think it's more likely a pressure switch in the hydraulics in which case the explanation doesn't make sense... to me anyway.

Just looked at their website. Can't find any documentation. Is there a User's Manual? Don't want to try another device without careful reading of "what does what" and "what might happen".

Next episode.
The check engine light popped up again. Took it to the indie shop I've been using and they are now seeing:
P2406 Evaporative emission system leak detection pump sens - circuit high.
P0442 Evaporative emission system leak detected (small leak)
The tech says the pump has failed, verified by separate testing. Cost of repair, $462 labor + $262 parts. He also speculated that the the mandatory pre-sale smog test probably raised those codes too, and they just cleared them and sold the car. He said it just took some time or miles for the DTCs to be thrown again.
The car purchase came with a 50% parts 50% labor 30 day 1000 mile engine & tranny warranty, but I'll have to take it to them for the work.
