Wouldn't it be sweet if Ian Callum gets his wish?

What NBCat was referring to was solely from the aspect of sound.
The further one goes above idle- the better the sound gets, because the exhaust becomes more harmonious/continuous.
A pushrod engine can only manage half the speed of an overhead cam. And at that half speed there is significant valvetrain noise.
Look at it another way- its the imbalance and valvetrain that stops the engine from going over 10k rpms. We can agree that an engine running 10k will sound different than one running 20k, all things being equal.
To some, myself included the allure to the sound of an oversquare is the lack of noise and song of perfect machinery- like a Swiss watch movement.

Our XKs (X150s) are the spiritual descendants of the other Jaguar XKs: XK120, XK140, XK150, C-Type, D-Type and E-Type. We should be proud to have a vehicle that has such a heritage.
Here is a clip of the Jaguar E-Type at Goodwood against several other marques, most notably the AC cars:
You can clearly see the superiority...

America longs for and readily absorbs culture and traditions from all parts of the world- unlike other parts of the world. As witnessed by the coffee craze, you could not give iced-tea away in Europe the way they have adopted iced-coffee in America, at a premium.
Yet regrettably, there is little known about European motorsports where so much of the heritage of their beloved cars was established at Herculean cost. Wonder if an Audi buyer on the whole is remotely aware of the Rally pedigree. Or the Land Rovers and Paris Dakar, or the Camel Trophy**.
My cup runneth over when I see all the cues of the legends you mentioned in their direct descendant in my hand. I cant believe it sometimes, how far they have come, and how kind of them to leave just that sliver of nostalgia that ties it all together.
(** my friend owns a Yellow Defender, and a white Def110, off-road fanatic, has never heard of the Camel Trophy)

^ That editing style, with "post recorded announcing and music clips", I can't bear it, sorry.
I prefer a little more raw, a little more alive.
They are getting that MPG at average speeds of 180MPH+; which is quite the accomplishment.
When not running at speed, they are stop/starting the engine, during the stop cycle it is infinite MPG.

Excellent driving skills using the 1960s technology without special tyres or ground-effects devices.
Thank you for sharing that video! We can all be proud of Jaguar and the beautiful vehicles they've created over the years, especially what Ian Callum penned in the X150!
I don't drive mine very much, but when I do, she still can turn heads and start conversations over ten years on. I do hope JLR can produce a successor!

I pray for a successor, and reminded that the same water never flows through the river twice.
Some point out to me that I must rectify the unusual recess of the front wheels (and make it less aerodynamic) I agree with an inner smile, as little do they know what that recess reminds me of.

What the hell, Ill jump into the necro post. The XK didnt sell well the last few years for various reasons. When I spoke to a JLR product designer a few months ago, the main take away I got was that JLR is getting back to their roots and 'forget what the Chinese market wants'. I would love to see another XK GT car. It might be 100% electric or some sort of hybrid. Either way they would do well to bring Ian back into the fold for the design process, keep the small back seat but above all else, keep it sexy.

The XK8 (first generation) brought me to Jaguar in 1996. When they discontinued the XKR around 2014, I moved to Porsche, bought a 991 Turbo convertible (it was the beautiful Targa that attracted me in the first place but it was to noisy and impracticable at higher speed; and I felt I “needed” a Turob-charged engine because it had to be faster than my last XKR, how else could I have motivated this move?). I have ordered one with wood veneer inside, as a reminiscence to may Jags. In short, while the 911s are technically brilliant cars, I never forgot my cats.
So, a few months ago, I decieded to take the risk of buying an old car (ahm, cat). First time also with aluminium veneers. It’s like coming home.
In short: I agree that it’s a shame that Jag did not find ways to improve and continue the XK/XKR line in a commercailly viable way. The F Type is a completely different animal and imho no replacement at all. It would have been a nice complement, however, had they only continued building their flagship sports GT.

Love that CX-75 but i think maserati stole this body style from Jaguar and changed a few things around on it and called it an MC-20.Since Jaguar never did anything with this and it would be an obvious hit that all Jaguar fans would love,i say they make the CX-75 as the new XK and make it a 2+2 and this will be the 6th generation XK Jaguar fans need.Matter of fact, they could've used the body style of how the CX-75 look in the rear and made the 6th Generation XK out of it and kept last generation XK look in the front. That would be love at 1st sight. It's so many ideas that Jaguar disregard that could make the company millions and billions, but yet and still they would rather keep failing with mediocre designs and make sports cars that look half nice when they got designs for sports cars that look better than most Ferrari's that they could put into production. They need to let the fans decide how they want the sports cars to look and let ian callum give it the finishing touches cause whoever they got in charge in the designs department need to be fired cause they putting jaguar back on that path it was on in the early 90s where it won't doing so good cause i heard the i-pace is failing. They got all the designs to be setup for success to make their cars look better than this and they refuse to bring it to reality but instead they let mediocre looking vehicles steal the spot light that nobody cares about buying LoL
