Boron is borium or boracium and silicon is silicium. Some of the other names such as tin and bismuth are not derived from Latin, thus have a different naming convention.
I was so terribly hopeless in maths at school that I took six years of Latin instead...

You think thats bad. What about "Porsche" Most usually pronounced Porsche Ah. My dad told me years ago, he had a German instructor at a trade school, in Chicago who said the Mans name was Dr. Ferdinand Porsche! No Ah was attached. Then in the 80's along came the Movie "Risky Business" with Tom Cruise, and it became cool, to say Porsche Ah. I believe it to be an insult to the man, and his car.
Just my thoughts.

Proper pronounciation is critical, as many words sound similar but have different meanings. For example, burro and burrow. A burro is an animal - a donkey. And a burrow is a trench or other excavation in the ground made be a mole or similar animal.
So, if you don't pronounce burro and burrow properly (burro = boo-roh and burrow = buh-roh), you can't tell the difference between your *** and a hole in the ground! :

If there were any native Latin speakers, they would all be on the Maserati or Ferrari forums . . . or chariot forums.
