This is what I pictured in my mind for what could possibly be installed wrong and break the glass. And why they(dealer) would call it a luggage bar. Although not surprising because Jaguar cannot call a part the same name in the owners manual, to the workshop manual, to parts catalog. have seen 3 differant names for the same part.
That being said I was driving my sons Buick to work on the highway and the back glass just shattered. replaced it and even the glass guy said he replaces glass for stress fracturing all the time with nothing hitting them.
So IMO if you cannot show you caused the damage I would err on manufacturing defect replacing the glass er top. Barring that satisfaction then I would file on insurance.
Ive even been sitting in a car in the parking lot on a hot day and heard a loud pop. didnt think much about it as didnt see anything untill I got out and noticed the sunrrof glass had shattered. Luckily the sun shade was closed. Must have been a meteor, or petrifyed bird crap, etc

 

That is a good point--why wouldn't it be covered by full glass coverage?

 

It happen during operation of top. I have found now that the luggage bar has a Hall effect transducer on the left side of bar. If it is not in place properly, you get a message on dash and top will not operate. Also I found TSB's on a number of things. Glass exploding as a poster referred to is most likely defect. Not windshield though. I asked to talk to supervisor Thur. I was told 24 hour call back. No callback. Also found TSB about rocker panel stone chips . Interesting they will install at your cost.i have the 3M product on front 1/3, door handle, rear 1/4 panel, and trunk/bumper ledge. You cannot see it it's great.

 

Reached a reasonable agreement with Jaguar on top replacement. Also Novi helped out nicely. I'm happy with both.

That's great news. I'm glad there has been some kind of consideration that has made it palatable.

On another subject, dear to my heart, although I almost never drive it anymore, I just can't get rid of my Pantera. Too beautiful!

I became some what expert on Pantera . My mechanic had a shop that was americanizeing them after 75. We had one of the big customizes here also in toledo. I will have another. But sorting them out is a bit of a pain. Loved it
