Default XK coolant temperature sensor

Is it possible to read coolant temp off a self installed gauge or the sensor is really a high/ low switch, like the oil pressure sensor?

The main coolant temperature sensor that’s located on the bottom of the thermostat housing (or just below it) on the front of the engine is where you want to tap into it. It’s just two wires and it definitely doesn’t act like a high/low switch like the oil pressure. You’ll get a live reading of the coolant temperature at all times.

Easiest to read Coolant Temp from the OBD2 connector and a phone app. It's there and has all the info ready to go.

I think Ken D might want to read the temp on a permanent basis.

I've got a chinese-cheapy HUD temp gauge reading off the OBD. Starts when engine starts, works fine. Easy

Im considering installing gages on the LH A-pillar, for oil pressure, battery voltage, and coolant temp. They make adapter kits for oil pressure. Not sure about the coolant temp since it doesn't screw into anything - but I'm sure it can be done, worst case you tap another hole into the coolant manifold. Or put it on the line that goes from the manifold to the expansion tank?

Running some wires through the firewall should be easy enough. Its been done before. And no need to plug up your OBD.

How did you feed OBD 2 to get that display?

Torque Pro app loaded on an Android media box hooked to a GVIF.
Sean has the process in the thread searchable as something like "replacement of camp2" or something like that.
I usually have this displayed unless I'm searching for a specific track on my USB.
The Navigation directions are displayed on the miniscreen between the tach and speedo for using Nav anyway.
I just found it.....
