Alboy - Congratulations!! You have just become an antenna. Stuart was right on with his suggestion. When my battery(ies) have aged, I have found this a good way to prolong their lives until I can replace them. By the way. Your XK should show you have a week key fob battery on the display in front of the driver's seat.

Well I’ve put a multimeter on both the key FOB battery and the car battery and both are putting out the voltage they should be so all good there. I guess it’s just as stated earlier in the thread, Japanese cars have weaker transmission and I’ll just have to live with it. Or, buy another FOB locally.

Here is an idea that works. Make your body the antenna for your key fob. Start about 6' away from the vehicle and hold the fob to your forehead while pressing the unlock or lock button, whichever one applies. After you have proven to yourself that it works keep doing it further and further away from the XK. I got it to work maybe 30 to 40 feet away.
