Tesla changed the face of automobile design with the Model S, although the large ovoid black plastic trim gave the front end a face to keep it familiar as Q&C mentioned. As the Model S evolved, that face became more radical looking with only a thin bar on top. With public acceptance of that design, the Model X was introduced with the same front end design with the Tesla badge in the center of the bar.
When the Model 3 was introduced, I thought the front end looked ridiculous - like a baby with gums and no teeth! But there was an important reason for that design: aerodynamics. The Model 3 has a very low drag coefficient of 0.23, and the front end design is one of the reasons. But if you don't like the look, aftermarket stickers are available to give it a face-lift.

The front end of the Tesla 3 is more than ridiculous, it's one of the ugliest front ends on any car in history. And as for aerodynamics, there are plenty of little design cues that would have helped it that wouldn't have affected the drag coefficient. However, I think there is an altogether different reason for its ugliness. It's purposeful! Just like Toyota that purposefully designs the Prius and its other environmentally aimed cars to have a particularly ugly look (which Honda has unfortunately copied), these ugly designs are meant to assuage the guilt felt by potential buyers who feel they shouldn't be driving a car let alone a beautiful one, so they purchase an ugly one to distance themselves from any good feelings about owning a car. No automobile designer could ever have looked at the "Jetson" rear taillights of any of the last few years of the Prius and thought that was a beautiful design. They were designed ugly to make a statement about the person who drives them. I believe the same holds true for Tesla. Since the profile of the Tesla 3 isn't too bad, like a shrunken Model S, it is as if the front was specifically ignored or made unattractive for a reason. You can't tell me that anyone at Tesla looked at the clay model that preceded the production model and said to themselves, "Wow, that's beautiful!" It is not accidentally ugly.
