Wow, what a great road trip in an XKR!

 

Britain makes a proper sports car already. It is called a Lotus Evora and NOTHING else handles like it. It also happens to ride better than our XK, (I keep asking myself how they did it). Unless you've driven one, keep it zipped. My "S" will do ~12 track days this year, my NA Evora did ~6 last year and my Elise did ~50 in its lifetime.

Even after 2+ months I'm still settling into our XK, but my Evora is like a fine leather shoe that fits perfectly. The XK always feels like its ready to pounce, the Evora feels like its suctioned to the road. Guess its going to take a track day to sort it out. To this driver, balance is far more important than blistering HP. If an F Type passes me at the track, I 'll be the first to acknowledge the driver. Excuse the aside buts its all British and good.

 

Maybe you should test drive a Cayman S then ....

 

Surprising about the weight of the Evora being greater than that of the Cayman since Lotus has always been about lightweight sports cars and handling.

 

I want to see how much the F-Type R-S is gonna weigh in at....and then... how will the V8's compare to a AWD V6S !?! And are they ever going to be able to push the V6S to a V6 R-S with over 400 hp? And can that be AWD as well!?!?

My 2014 Porsche Cayman is a great ride. The handling is suprub. Mine is the 2.7L 275 HP engine, and has plenty of power for my liking.

It's fun to compare the the XKR to the Cayman as they are such different cars.

Many times it is very difficult to determine what car I should drive.

The XKR has the ultimate power and great smooth GT ride, but the Cayman has the thrill of a real sports car, that I have not had the opportunity to duplicate.

Both are premium automobiles that I feel so fortunate to own.

 

I frequent an S2000 forum and someone posted "What is the best looking car in production today?" The majority (seriously) was the Jaguar F-type. This is from a group that does not think of Jaguar in high regards either. The uninformed fan-boy opinions that many car forums offer. 19 year old experts and magazine review dreamers...

Well, that does say a lot for Jag's styling department. Aston Martin was named several times, mostly Vanquish. Porsche Cayman was often named. Several were digging the Alfa 4C. Same general negative opinion was for Alfa as a brand, but loved the car. I feel Alfa's bad rap is largely on foggy memories of a marque that hasn't been here for 20 years.

Brits have the edge on automotive design is a big take away.

Things have changed the auto world; the lesser brands stepped up and great brands have fallen. Cars are more disposable than they were and great brands had difficulty adjusting their manufacturing.

My choices were McLaren MP4-12C and Rolls Royce Wraith

 

They really both are premium Automobiles but drive both of them on a german autobahn for 400 miles and you'll leave the XKR vividly and the Cayman with a bad spine.
The cayman will outperform the XKR on the Nurburgringtrack but I had great fun with my XKR on drifting challenges.

 

The F-Type will do a lot to increase resale values on the XK is my prediction. The XK is not a well known car. I get "Is that an Aston" or "Is that the new Jag" much more than "Is that an XK".

With used F-Types going for a premium, potential buyers will see the XK and think that hits all the bells and whistles.

Like you only knew about the Vantage and then all of sudden you see a DB for much less; very attractive alternate.

I drove the F Type this weekend. I wanted a convertible. This is not a girl friendly car. The trunk wouldn't fit a bag of groceries. Have to say the ride was invigorating and it takes off like a rocket. I don't think it would be a comfortable day to day car though. This is a true blue sports car. I got the XK 2014 and am thrilled. It is fast, and I mean FAST, and luxurious. Nothing like it on the convertible market. You'd be paying double for anything that would even come close!
