XK , XKR , XKR-S mileage
I did a search but either didn't ask the right question or there isn't to much info. So not that it matters much but I see the XK listed at 16 City and 24 Highway while both the XKR and XKR-S are listed at 15 , 22. So what are the real "normal " numbers here . Has anyone check this and if so what were the real world numbers.

Jagtoes:
2009 XKR 4.2L SC here.......16-17 avg city driving........20-21 on the highway @ 75MPH. If I am heavy on the pedal in town, 15 is about my low number.
Considering the engine is supercharged, and sometimes get down on the pedal, I am pleased with overall gas consumption.
I am sure individual driving habits dictate the overall average mileage readings.
I am sure the mileage will get better as each birthday passes. Age has a tendency to slow everyone down.

Last time I looked, it was 13, but that's Imperial, so about 10.8 US. However, the average speed in London is about 10 mph, with traffic lights & speed bumps all over the place, so there's lots of idle-accelerate-brake-idle going on. And since I quite enjoy the 'accelerate' bit, it's not an economy run...
I'm taking it for a longer run in May - London to Fishguard (Wales), which is 5 hours of mainly motorway driving, then a ferry to Rosslare (Ireland), then another 3 hours to Shannon Airport (to collect the missus), and 2 hours to Killarney. Should be interesting to see what I clock up on the motorway at a fairly constant 85.

In average I get between 18.6 and 24.5 depending on factors like speed, ambient temperature traffic etc. Although one time I took back roads and tried to see how good I could do. And I was able to manage just hitting an indicated 30mpg by being fairly light on the throttle and getting into the high gear as early as possible.

Great information here. I'm coming from a 3.0 L V8 with 4 weber 2 bbl. carbs so my in town mileage was 8-9 mpg and the best on the road I got was 16 mpg. So it's interesting that I'll be able to call myself environmentally responsible with my next car,LOL. Then again I sold that car to someone who will put more miles on it then I did.

So far I have yet to see 22mpg on a highway trip (1+hr). Was a bit shocked how much thirstier the 5.0 has been after 10yrs in my 2004 XJ VDP (4.2 300HP) that always got 28+ on highway(28.6 mpg on a 2500 mile round trip to and from Florida a few years back). The stock tune on the XK is too damn rich, even the trumpets are black. Jags is in middle of downloading my tune today. We'll see if this helps and car also runs better. I am a deadly consistent driver that does a 375 mile trip to/from CT<->ME in +-5minutes for 30yrs so I'll know soon enough. At cruising speed, HP is not being used, at that pace its all about efficient tunes! Besides the extra 30 HP can't be that bad either!

Power doesn't have to be thirsty! Efficiency wins races btw. Bet a 4.2 XKR can't run away from a tuned 5.0 now!
On another note, just went for first ride after my ETS tune. Was smoother at idle instantly. Throttle response is much more linear, less jumpy pedal. Car is wicked quick already but seems even smoother doing it now. Less rich smell in exhaust at idle. Bottom line, factory tune was pretty poor, maybe one of worst I'd experienced, but JAGS has made all that disappear.
