Hi Guys, Just had my first set of private plates made and fitted by Halfords not sure I'm a fan of branded plates. Any recommendations on who to use for plates? And also noticed the boot key is behind the licence plate is this correct?
I had gotten a set of plates made on a website called Plate Finder. What I saw on the website was not exactly what appeared at my mailbox, with the company logo in small text at the bottom. Sure, it was small text, but it was still there. However, when I asked at a Kodak shop, they told me that the company that made the plate is legally required to put its name on it. I guess try and find the smallest text you can.

I presume by 'branded' you mean the NAME and POST CODE of the supplier on the bottom of the plate? This isn't optional in the UK, it's regulations although you can find many suppliers of 'show' plates who will happily take your money to provide plates without this identifier.
Are you likely to get stopped? Probably not but if you do have an exchange of views with bored Traffic Officers, it gives them the excuse for a considerably more in-depth examination of you and your vehicle.
The standard rectangular rear plate does cover the luggage compartment lock which can be a nuisance if you ever need to use it. A mounting frame is the easiest solution.
I was going to recommend the ASARAH mounting frames I use but thought they were no longer available. Noticed they are back on Amazon today. Made in Germany but fit the standard Euro plate size we use in the UK:
The thinnest and most unobtrusive mountings I could find and the plate can be removed if required with the tool provided giving reasonably easy access to the luggage compartment keyway. Allows me to change these and put the correct GGG plates back on.
The is number is not presently issued but would no doubt cost a lot more than the car if DVLA ever choose to auction it.
Or in the US where they give you the plates you're required to have. Personalized plate authorizations are usually under $100 in most states, and those plates are also provided at no cost.

Maybe they don’t have enough prison labor in the UK to hammer out the plates?
