Angry XKR lost communication with engine control module A

Day one car started but felt like I it was a misfiring diesel. Shut down and restarted with same results plus engine massive fail light.
Day two car will not start, showing multiple system fail lights. ODO shows all system faults are due to lost communication with engine control module A.
Replaced battery with battery from my other Jag both showing 12.8 volts, no help.
The only thing that I had done was I replace brake/tail light with an LED bulb that worked but still showed light burned out. I did drive the car with this bulb for 2 days until I could get a real bulb which was replaced after the car fault started.
Any suggestions for trouble shooting before I fork out the big bucks for a new engine control module A.
Update
Day three, fault U0100-00 and U0100-87-87 on OBD scanner, fuses all check good
Cooling fan turns on when I turn on power and does not stop until I switch off

If I need to change the module any advise.

Thank you
Rick

“Lost communications with the ECM”! Well, that’s not good! It controls EVERYTHING.
Are you even able to read the codes? If its a failed comms bus (perhaps something as simple as a disconnected grounding point) I would suspect not. By the nature of your message, May I propose you get her towed into a professional’s shop, now.

Thank you for idea of checking comm box power, I have a code reader but did not check the individual codes when I saw the lost comm code. I will check the individual codes today. I live in Albuquerque, NM so I am pretty much on my own for getting it fixed. Lucky I spent 20 years working on aircraft electronics.

Default 2008 XKR ECU problem

I tested all of the relays and fuses , all checked good. I was able to find a used ECU from a car that had a serial # 32 from mine, $310 with shipping. New ECU and all of the problems cleared. BUT, the car would not start, VIN not programmed or Incompatible & invalid data from vehicle immobiliser. I tried all of the tricks for resetting the ECU listed on the forum with no help..$165 tow to the local Jaguar deal. $365 bill to reprogram ECU and clear immobilizer. Total for repair $840.
If you need to change your ECU I would suggest that you plan on needing to get your car to the dealer to have the ECU programmed to your car.

Rick,
A good heads up for folks considering replacing modules on the XK. Most do require programming when replaced.
Consider a VID (vehicle interface device) and becoming familiar with SDD.

best regards,
Bill

Thanks for the recommendation. Truth be told I bought a VID SDD software system and cable a few years ago for my XF but was never able to get it to run. I am currently using a Creader professional OBD. Can you recommend a good VID system.
Thanks

Rick,
What do you have? Try making that work.
A genuine mongoosePro is first choice. China clone seems to work, as a backup to my oem. Opinions vary.
SDD v150 or below as they (should) include VDF, hidden data files. V130s and 140s all work fine, depends on who's talking.
Start with what you have on a dedicated laptop.
Follow the instructions, if any, and post your results, issues. Good luck.

Thank you for advise. I bought a China clone a few years ago but never was able to get it to work so it is sitting in a drawer somewhere. I may just buy a newer one, as I am semi retired now so I have time to work with it. I will let you know how it works out.

Did you install the Drew Tech drivers for the Mongoose? My clone from China connects fine, never tried programming with it.

It's been so long that I do not really remember the problems that I had. When I find the cable and disk I will try installing the Drew Tech drivers and let you know. I am working 12 hour nights till next Monday and have a class on Tuesday then off for 2 weeks so it will probably be next Wednesday before I get a chance to try it out.
