XKR-S Ordered, issues?
I recently placed my order for a new 2012 XKR-S. Unfortunately my choice of Ultimate Black is reported unavailable due to the ongoing metallic material availability from Japan. Thus, my dealer says Jag wants to use Midnight Black, which is OK with me.
Further now, it seems that Jag is dragging their feet re the official build commitment timing for my car.
Has anyone else recently ordered and if so, any feedback from your dealer?
Thanks and happy motoring, StuM

I ordered a 2012 XFR in Rhodium Silver which apparently is NOT on the list of affected paint choices....I was originally told Octoberish......then Novemberish......Finally, a week ago I got a firm date of December 18th....Ive never ordered a car before, so Im really not sure of how the process is supposed to work or if these type of delays are unusual. It is somewhat frustrating.

XKR-S Order Confirmed
Thanks Sky. I finally received a copy of the XKR-S order sheet from my dealership GM yesterday. Spec'ed out just as I ordered it. Target production is first week in December and deliver into the U.S and to me in January.
They still can not provide the Ultimate Black, so mine will be Midnight Black Metallic.

When I purchased my car I asked for Ebony. My dealership presented me with Midnight Blue. I was pissed at first until I realized that Midnight Blue is a metallic paint whereas Ebony is not. Metallic paints look sooo much better over time! Plus it's so dark that you can't tell the difference. It's kinda like tuxedos and dogs, lol.

Graphite
You may need to do a good polish and wax on the ebony, mine gleems.
I've owned a couple of black metallic cars and they just don't look deep black. Its more of a graphite color like this XKR-S in ultimate black:

FWIW, the metallic paint issue is (or was; not sure if it's been alternatively sourced yet) affecting Kyanite Blue as well (for both XKs and XFs). The delay in obtaining your color selection is unusual and attributable to the Sendai disaster. Evidently, some of the metallic ingredients for certain colors were single-sourced to a factory affected by that disaster.

Washed, polished, waxed, and waxed again today...color looks a lot better now.
It was a good use of 3 hours
