Anybody have any production numbers on the XKR-S?

Seems that some 15K Gallardos were built and you can find one at every Cars n Coffee but we have only 20 Ss registered here ....

Hard data seems to be unavailable, but on another thread here there's been some mathematical sleuthing that puts the total US number at around 270.

Press releases for the 2012 and 2013 XKR-S routinely cited 200 2013's, roughly 50:50 coupe/convertible, and only 25 convertibles in 2012. Guessing at a similar coupe/convertible ratio for 2012 and you end up with a number that's not far from the 270 US cars mentioned above.

I tried contacting Jaguar re: our FRBlue coupe numbers, but they would only supply general stats. My guess would be that there are 20-30 FRB coupes in the US.

EDIT: and add some more 2014 cars... I will up my estimate to 36.5 FRB coupes in the US ;-)

One of the great things about the XKR-S...I have had mine for almost a year now in a major city and have never seen another one...ever.

My plate says "1 of 25"...One day a couple teenagers pulled up to me and said they loved the car, but wanted to know if I had 24 other cars...LOL.

They are quite rare to say the least...Heck the whole revised jaguar brand is quite rare. I stop in my tracks and do a doubletake when I see a post 2012 Jaguar XJ,XF,XK no matter what version. And when people see me in my XK they think I am some sort of rock-star!!

Matt- I'm going to go for the carbon fiber hood vents after seeing a pic of a white RS with them. You got them from Mina, correct? Is it an easy installation?

Good choice, they look great. Yup, got mine from Mina and they are super easy to install.

One tip, when removing the stock ones I recommend you use some blue painters tape on top of the bonnet to hold them loosely in place, perhaps along the edge. Otherwise when you pop them out from the underside of the bonnet they will go flying off and could possibly hit your car or even damage the stock vent if it flies off and hits the ground.

When applying the CF vents, make sure they are perfectly centered and both sides match. You will apply them with the bonnet closed, as they use 3M tape to hold them in place. Simple install.

Post pics when you're done and good luck!

Thanks for the tips! One more question- the clear side markers- can you install them yourself?

Yes, very easily. The stock amber ones are only held in place by a thick double sided tape. For removal of the stock pieces, you need to warm them up with a hair dryer and then gently pry them off using a small flathead screwdriver. Be careful not to crack them if you plan to save them for later. You can also tape around them and use a washcloth so the screwdriver doesn't scratch the paint while you pry.

The new clear ones will just stick right back in place. Make sure to get all the old tape residue out of the cavity so the new ones will fit in perfectly and securely.

Some of the comments are funny...One lady said she loved the "chrome" paint.

Default More carbon fiber...

I added the OEM carbon fiber hood vents tonight. I really like the result - I think it helps tie in the CF parts. I still need to install the carbon fiber mirrors but ran out of time this evening. Here's some quick pics...

That looks really good. I think they should have come like that from the factory. I agree it ties everything together.

I did. The Mina's are MUCH less expensive but are mounted using 3M tape and aren't as finished on the underside. I think both are good options, I just decided to go with OEM for the above reasons. I've got the OEM CF mirror covers too but need to figure out how to remove the mirror glass so I can pop off the original covers. Do you know if there's a place I can download the service manual?

Thanks,

Hamish.

hmm, I saw somebody here post a link where you can create an account and login to a Jaguar site that gives you your original equipment list based on your VIN etc and I saw a document section there and it definitely had the owner's manual there but also other docs, not absolutely sure. I have the kink saved at home but cannot find the thread heere right now. I will post it tonight if it has any of the service manuals as well.

Aside of that, many mirrors are just ball clips and pop right off with a little pull.

Thanks for the links and instructions on removing the mirrors. The whole process was very straightforward albeit a little scary. Below are some pics with the OEM carbon fiber mirror caps installed. I think it came out great but I guess I'm a little biased...
