Probably already a thread for this, but I just did this 5 minutes ago, and it took about 5 minutes to do.
I did this to see if the filter from the lincoln ls would work, and it does!
My model year is a 2010 XKR.
There are two tabs at the top (see pics) to pop out the outer cover. Then there will be two torx screws that have to be removed on the inner trim piece. Then twist out the old filter, twist in the new. Put it back together the same way it came apart. Pretty simple task.
I just couldn't justify what the dealer wanted for both the labor and the cost of the filter to do this. Some dealers include this in the standard mileage services but the one I went to in Denver last year didn't for some reason.
I don't believe it's a carbon filter. I think I actually like the white one better, after a few thousand miles I'll look at it and see if it's gotten very dirty. Hard to tell with the black one if it's doing anything.
I couldn't tell a difference after I did it, I don't think the one I pulled out was dirty.
