SO, topless, I stop at the light next to a pitch-black burbling Corvette with the vanity plate 1MEANC8. We sit for a few, and the passenger looks over and I say "Sweet." He nods, then the driver leans forward to give me an acknowledgement and he cries out "Is that an XKR?" "You betchya." He then said "Really sweet!" as the light changed and he sped off. Good times.

Most of us want comfort, style, timeless elegance, relaxed traveling, still with enough speed and power reserve.
And given that, we are lucky owners of one of the most beautiful (and in fact reliable, if well maintained) cars in the world.
For one:
If I were in the race ti be the fastest (on public roads?), I’d have kept my 991 Turbo S Conv.
To return to Jag was - car wise- the best decision I have ever made in slightly more than 60 years.
A disclaimer may be needed: yet I can appreciate and in some cases even admire the engineering (and on occasion even the beauty) of a supersportscar.

I was at a car gathering last evening, a beautiful red metallicC8 pulled in. Chatted with owner 4 quite a while. he and wife are going on 3k mile trip through western usa in a week or so. The trunk space in his C8 is @ twice that of my xk convertible. The car looks, sounds and apparantly is truly the supercar that all corvette owners have been hoping for.

Hoo boy will they regret that. Sure, the ride will be a tiny bit better than the C7, but that's not saying much at all. Even on SOFT these things are not fun over a larger distance.

I doubt anyone will believe this, but I put about seven car lengths on a C7 Z06 during a 40- 150 mph highway pull a couple summers ago.
I'm not sure who was more surprised- me or him. I accused him of missing a shift or being in rain mode or whatever and his passenger said, nope... Max effort and it's an auto, so no missed shifts. I'm certain from a dig would have been very different.

Agreed. My point was simply: does it really matter? Does it make any meaningful difference to the typical XKR driver under “normal” circumstances? At the end of the day, isn’t it more about the balance of many criteria? But I did not mean to downgrade the conversation in any way.
