This connector in the link below popped up on my Amazon feed, and it seems like the easiest way to hook up a CTEK that I've seen, but I don't think I've seen anyone on here mention hooking up this way. What's the downside?

The cigar(ette) lighter gets disconnected from power during the power shut-down sequence. No power out equals no power IN.

I use a 6' comfort extension that plugs into the cable attached to the battery/auto. takes all of <15 seconds to plug in and <10 seconds to unplug. I just leave the cord in the trunk when not in use. Very simple and foolproof for me.

Have you had any concern about that area on top getting dirty/wet and shorting out between those spade connections?

No as the receptacle is a marine socket and the spade connectors are sealed with RTV when installed. I have been through rain and it has not been an issue. There is also a rubber seal plug that you put in the socket when not in use.
