Is Auto to 4/5 speed conversion practical?
I'm a newbie to this Forum, and looking at various options in a 150 coupe.....
I really don't want an automatic, and wondered how practical a change over to either a Jag 4-speed tranny, or a late-model 5 speed....?
Has anyone here done that?...What parts did you get, and what steps were involved....
I have done a lot of automotive mechanical work, so I can do it , if it is doable, without creating a monster.
Thanks for any advice or information.

I would say it is do-able, after all, these cars had either type of transmission, but most were manual gearboxes. Easiest will be fitting a near-contemporary Jaguar gearbox, as the bell housing should fit OK, if you want something more modern, you will have to seek out a US XK specialist, they do exist as they do here in England. Or you can ask an English specialist if he ships to the US. I have never done this job, but would anticipate it will not be cheap.

Thanks for the reply...I knew it would not be a cheap fix, but when I have looked at 150's with 4-speeds, compared to automatics, there is a substantial (more than double) difference in asking prices....
Obviously there is much more demand for the cars with the 4-speed boxes, and , personally, I have autos in my family cars, I don't want them in my hobby vehicles.....
I did see a "Laycock de Normanville" O.D. tranny for sale, with the bell housing...It is a so-called "crash box"...It was from a Mk.1-2 series....It was a so-called "crash box"...Does that mean it is non syncho in all gears?
Would this be a usable gearbox?
