Default Auto transmission oil

Hi ,

My 1958 XK 159 auto driver manual that came with the car lists the transmission oil as - type "A" (AQ- ATF ) . Can anyonshed some light on what a modern brand equivilant is ?
Also I'm just topping up what's in the transmission . Does it matter if different brands are mixed in ?

Cheers

Chris

Chris you will find Type A if you search--it is still available. You can use FA in a pinch but the best operation will be with Type "A". While other brands will "work" the operation will be closer to proper with the right oil. Look around and you will find it--as far as mixing I would not. If you do not know what is in there I would suggest a drain and refill. Remember your car has a torque converter that has a drain to get a very clean flush. Good luck!
