ex Chester SImpson alloy XK120 SN670124
I am looking for examples of cars that went through hell and high water before they were rescued. I was surprised when reading the RM auction description of the ex-Hornburg alloy car that they made 242 all alloy ones, I thought decades ago it was only the first 10 or so.
The auction description (RM, I think) is a little vague only saying #670124 went to a Mr. Simpson n the '70s and from there to George Stauffer, the Cobra guy in Wisconsin and then, unrestored , to an owner who did it right. I wonder if it sat around at Hornburg between the '50s and the early '70s? Doesn't sound possible. Maybe the one that was bought by Phil Hill has a more dramatic story, where it slipped into decadence and was brought back by somebody who recognized it. Does anyone know that car's SN? Thanks for any advice.
