Adaptive Cruise Control - Control Module Failure

Adaptive Cruise Control - Control Module Failure
Hi all,
Last year the Cruise control started going intermittent with the amber light showing on the dash and "Cruise Control Not Available"
But now it doesn't work at all.
Every time I start the car, after about 5 seconds it say " Cruise Control Not Available" with the amber light.
I did go to an independent garage last year which gave the following DTC faults codes: (not OBD)
U2503 Contact Autologic-Dianostics for description.
C1292 ASCCM Sensor blocked.
B1342 ASCCM Adaptive Speed Control Control Module Failure.
Am I right in thinking that the Cruise Module is the sensor behind the front bumper?
If so, are there any checks I can perform? Anything I can do to fix it, or have it fixed?
The garage quoted me £1064 for the part.
I've attached pics of the sensor/module behind the bumper and the report from the garage.
I did serach the forum, but couldnt find anything relevant.
Thanks in advance.
Lawrence

These are weird codes.
C1292 is not listed as an XK DTC
The others don't add up
B1342 CPCM Telephone Control module failure N — CPCM failure
B1342 DHRCM Driver Seat Head Restraint Control module failure N — DHRCM failure
B1342 DSCCM Dynamic Stability Control Control module failure Y*— DSCCM failure CHECK ENGINE MIL
I suspect the code reader.
This message (not these codes) can be due to a number of things - as simple as a bad brake light switch.
Do you have access to another code reader?
Is the MIL light on ?

Hi Steve,
Those codes were from the independent garage who are a Jaguar /TVR specialist. Although they mean nothing to me.
The MIL light is not on and I don't think its logged any other codes.
I'll plug my OBD reader in this evening and see if its shows anything up.
As far as I know the brake switch is working fine.

You can see from my post that if the MIL light isn't on then the B code is spurious.
Post any codes + get help checking the brake switch operates correctly.
Having said that there are two brake switches and either one can cause this problem.
Have a bit of a Google and see what you turn up.
DTC is another name for OBD, just a cheapo OBD reader can't access most non Pxxx (powertrain) codes.

I have the same problem with mine XKR 2001 the module is behind the front bumper, the cause is the module isn't communicating with ECM, BBA Reman can sort this out, go to there site and you'll find it , approximately £600. I,ve been looking on eBay for six months now for a used one, for some reason they're like hens teeth. But check the brake light switch first just it case it might be an easy fix albeit awkward.

I was gonna suggest to that you send it out to a repair/rebuilder of modules. Based on the corrosion on the outside I would venture to say that theres probobly corrion inside causing issues. You cant pull codes with this using a standard OBD2 reader its not a OBD2 item. Its a Jaguar specific item that would have to be read with the correct Jag scanner(SDD) or a proper aftermarket with the capability. But looks like you already have the info. And yes good luck ever finding 1 because theyre rare, and why Ive heard a few people over the years claiming theirs were stolen off the car.

Hi Robert, it does throw up a restricted performance Amber light, but the car runs normal, well mine does, and on the LCD screen it shows cruise control not available, incorrect part, failsafe engine mode and occasionally restricted performance but the car drives without fault, if your car is running in RP, try clearing the codes and see how it runs.

So my Adaptive Cruise module is faulty so at present my options are $5100 plus fitting for new $2500 for rebuild is we can find someone to do it or a second hand unit that no one has. Don't think I can justify $6000 repair bill for my XJR that is prob worth $12000-$14000.
I have put something on the XJ site but guys any ideas if this unit can be bypassed and the although I will not have cruise my car will not be interfered with while driving.

Hi Robert, there,s a module on the UK eBay that might suit your car, it gives the vin numbers to which it will fit, £500, have a look, I'm going check the BBA reman in England to see if they still repair them, I think they do, it's the US one that doesn't, strange, because it's made in USA.

Brizzy you are the man! Think I got the unit for 500 brand new in box from a Jaguar repair shop! What are the chances of that. The numbers in my earlier post are the same unit why Jag have to put so many numbers on there parts is beyond me. I would still like to find out if you can bypass this unit for further knowledge as if I have a problem again I don't think that I will find another.

Excellent Robert , I called BBA Reman UK, and they rebuild your unit for £600 plus postage, so that's where I,m sending mine. There,s something called Autologic which can erase the unit from the ECM, there,s a thread on the UK jaguar forum by Davey, Adaptive cruise control, that will tell you more. Hope it all works out.

If you have access to a dealer scan tool then you should be able to do it.
There is some discussion in the XJ section about doing just that:
