Bonnet Badge ("Hood Emblem")

Someone decided that my bonnet badge would be better in his trophy cabinet than on my bonnet (grr.)

My questions:
1) Will it do any damage to the car if I leave the hole there uncovered? Will water/ whatever get into someplace important and do nasty things to my baby?
2) How difficult is it to fit the replacement?
I have ordered the part, but I really don't fancy taking the whole engine compartment apart to fit the star washer thingy to the back of the badge. (I'm not a do-it-yourself-er)

Check this thread in the HOW TO section:
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ight=xk8+badge
It shows the reverse of a new badge with the spring clip. No need to use this clip as the double sided tape will hold it on.

Thanks all. Now it looks like it may be within my technical grasp, I just have to decide if I should leave the badge off, or give the little horrors another go at removing the new one. I'm not sure that I want to spend £100 a month filling up their collections, but I hate to leave her without a badge.
Decisions, decisions.
Decisions, decisions.

Apart from becoming more difficult to source, the UK price looks to have jumped by 50% in the two years since I last purchased one.
