Ruptured Oil Cooler Hose

Ruptured Oil Cooler Hose
Some time ago I told you all about my oil cooler Hi-pressure hose rupturing during my post chain tensioner replacement test drive. What a mess it made. Well I finally learned how to post pictures so I thought i'd show you. The new hose has an improved ferrule to reduce the stresses on the hose. The bottom hose on the left end is where it ruptured. If your hoses are swelled at the fitting then I urge you to replace them. The other "half" of the hi pressure side (feed and return consist of 4 hoses) had been chaffed by the inner fender on the metal pipe section. (Don't have photo shop to add arrows and such) but you can see it in the pictures. This concerned me so I wound up replacing all 4 hoses...about $400 from Gaudin.

Cooler Hoses
White XKR, yeah my hi-pressure side had ruptured at the oil pan end, the hose connected to it was the one that was chaffed. My Low pres/return hoses looked like yours, i.e. cracked and swelled at the fittings so I decided it was time to replace them as well. I like Jaguar's improved design with the longer bell shaped fittings...should last much longer.
Stevepaa, to view the hoses look from underneath the car. They originate at a fitting between the oil pan and the front damper/harmonic balancer. They branch to the right and left into/behind the plastic inner fenders. The Hi-Pressure hose is on the left, return on the right. They connect to another hose that wraps around to the oil cooler which is in front of the radiator and AC condenser. There are O-rings at each end of each hose that can also develop a leak (as per H2Oboy's car did). To replace them you need to lift the car up, remove the inner fender liners and you have full access. Not hard to do.
(I have a lift at home so it makes it much much easier to do any repairs.)
I'm pretty sure all XKRs have oil coolers; but do all XK8s have oil coolers?

Only a tech, Jaguar themselves, or the specifications can address whether all had oil coolers.

Thanks for showing that, mine has microscopic stress crack from that area.
Cleaned em with brake cleaner, Black RTV'D it, and used 2 -5/8 full steel clamps in those areas to eliminate what you just when through, from flex.
There is a company that makes silicone hoses that will never do this, forgot the name, you just ship em your old ones, the police had the same issue.
The hoses are bright blue as well.

My 2005 Super V8 is losing engine oil on the drivers side just under the power steering pump. I had my indy put it up in the air to look at it. He said its a leaking oil hose and its pretty bad and wanted me to order it for him. All he told me is the hose that is leaking is on the drivers side but the mechanic said it went behind the engine and he couldnt follow it all the way. Does this sound correct? Could he be looking at the wrong line that is sprayed with leaking oil by mistake? Does the engine oil cooler line wrap around the back of the engine? Does anyone have a schematic of the oil cooler lines? A pic maybe? It may be a while before I can get a day off to have him put it up on the lift again for me to take a look and I am concerned it will let go. Any help is appreciated....

First call jaguar with your vin to make sure there is no recall for that.
I will tell you, the mechanic is correct, after I removed a crank sensor, to plug it in, the AC compressor and lines had to come off, and ac system recharged.
So when he told you a trail is there and he cant follow it, that means stuff has to start coming off.And oh I truly beleive him.
Jaguar cant keep mechanics, because the car is the most difficult to service.
Something the book pays a tech 3 hours to do, ends up actually taking his whole day!
And that's not making money for him or the ***********. One simple issue had my Car gone for a month, for a bad fuel line years ago, because so much stuff had to be undone to get to it, and parts availability.Cost ended up being over $1300 and me with a rental for 30 days.

Ruptured Hose lost oil at once
My oil hose burst on the motorway and lost al the oil in the system in 2 minutes. Because of the oil on the exhaust I noticed the smoke and was able to pull over before wrecking the engine.
It ruptured near the connection at the oil cooler. I replaced both hoses to make sure to prevent it happening to the other side.
