timing chain tensioners (where to find & part number)
i was finally able to confirm with the previous owner that the timing chain tensionser was never replaced (which explains the cold start noise) on my 98 xk8. basically im looking for a place i can buy the metal tensioners and/or a part number to see if my local part shop can get me some a.s.a.p.
thanks in advance

(Thanks to WhiteXKR for finding and posting this information originally, which I will now pass on to Mr. Dead Anthony)
The best thing to do is buy the Ford equivalent tensioners, which are identical to the Jag tensioners in all aspects except the price. The same tensioners were used in a Lincoln engine. Here are your FORD part numbers:
Ford PN 2W9Z6K254BA Right Secondary metal bodied Tensioner (1 required)
Ford PN 2W9Z6K254CA Left Secondary metal bodied Tensioner (1 required)
Ford PN W500301S300 Bolt (4 required - YOU MUST USE THESE NEW, SLIGHTLY SHORTER BOLTS)
Also at WhiteXKR's suggestion, I bought my parts at www.sunroadfordparts.com. Great pricing, quick delivery.
My advice is to get this work done NOW. Don't wait. You could lose your engine any day now, if you've got the noise at startup.

It's a busy place...just place your order over the website. That's what I did. Within a few hours, I got an e-mail asking if I was sure about the part fitting my car...as soon as I replied in the affirmative, they shipped.
As a second option, you could also walk into any Ford dealership parts department.

Be sure to order the correct Gasket Set. The 97-98 XKs use a AJ26 Engine. Later years (99-02) use a AJ27 Engine. The Cam Cover Gaskets are NOT the same.
The Gaskets used on the Thunderbird and Lincoln LS are the Later (AJ27) Design.

Tousley Ford is a big internet seller @ cost + 10%. It's as good as it gets.
Ford PN 2W9Z6K254BA Right Secondary metal bodied Tensioner (1 required)
Ford PN 2W9Z6K254CA Left Secondary metal bodied Tensioner (1 required)
Ford PN W500301S300 Bolt (4 required)
You can get a FelPro gasket kit from RockAuto.com that also includes the spark plug gaskets for a cheap price. A 5% discount PIN can usually be found online. Sorry I don't have the FelPro part # for the A26 engine.

Yes, they are. Jaguar changed to the AJ27 engine in 1999 except for the XKR which switched to the AJ27 in 2000.
The Tensioners and mounting bolts service the AJ26 and AJ27 Engines. The Gaskets are different. The FelPro Gaskets service the AJ27 only.

I replaced the secondary tensioners in my 98 XK8, but there is still a slight rattle on cold start for a second or so. I am thinking about changing the secondary chains, along with the primary's and related tensioners and guides.
I would really appreciate it if any one can tell me if the 1998 Ford Thunderbird parts are the same as Jaguars? Buying them from a Ford dealer would almost certainly save money.
Regards,
White Bear.
