UK headlights switch to EU?
Someone recently posted a link to some inexpensive headlight brackets that you can order to switch the orientation of the lights from right hand drive to left hand drive.
But now I can't find it in the forum?
Does anyone remember this and have the link?
cheers,
jj

I bought a pair of these on eBay UK a couple of weeks ago, but have still to fit them. They were up for £90, but the seller accepted my offer of £50. This is still massively expensive for what they are (basically just two bits of folded galvanised steel), but at least you don't have to buy the entire headlight unit as jaguar wants.

Thanks Froggie us Pseudo Frogs have to stick togethe;
Would you please be kind enough to send me the link for them?
I tried searching Amazon and just couldn't find them.
Have you installed them yet?
Will they work with the xenon lights on an '03-'04?
I take it your '05 is a right hand drive as well.
I have the same color in the Convertible.

Still can't figure out how to post a photo...but this gives me an idea....
Anyway it must have been your post I saw a couple of weeks ago about the backing plates.
Thanks for you help.
cheers

I don't think you can: the RHD deflectors are a completely different shape.
Jamjax, here is a link to the eBay ad where I found my deflectors. I have bought bits from the seller (a Jaguar breaker) before and they're pretty good. I will need to fit the deflectors before the car's next contrôle technique, but that's not until January 2013.

I guess I'll be trying your turn-around fix, then... and selling my unused deflectors...

Thanks again Avos.
Is the metal bracket in the HID light housing or behind it?
Frog sorry you have the wrong parts at least you found out before you got into it....that would have been a head scratcher....please let me know when you try to turn around the plates.....any chance you could post photos of the attempt?
All of us Ex-Pats would be thankful.
On another note does anyone know how to adjust self adjusting head lights?
The cut off on the right side is really too low for me right now and I don't have time to take the lights apart until after the holidays.
With 15 degrees/60 F. weather I plan to be driving with the top down for another month.
cheers,
jj

I'm bringing my US LHD XKR to UK, so I am looking to convert from LHD to RHD for MOT.
The plates available on Ebay are described as being for both HID and Halogen lamps (?). As I understand this thread so far, with HID lights I just need to be disassembled and then the plate rotated through 180 degrees and reassembled. Am I missing something?

Hey Rick;
Do you have a shipper yet?
I found these guys and they gave me a quote of $1550 Cleveland,Ohio to either the UK/Holland/Germany for a 1960 MGA in a container....that is about what I paid seven years ago for drive on/drive off for a Volvo V70R from New Mexico....they have a unique way of packing containers that you can see in the video.
Course if it is a company move it doesn't really matter.
If not I have to point out having just researched this for the past two months that the cost right now on used XKR's in the US and the UK is slightly lower in the UK.
Try Autotrader.co.uk and exchangeandmart.co.uk
What year, style and color is your XKR?
Good luck and cheers,
jj

Thanks jj for the shipping info - I'm booked with shipoverseas.com - RORO $880 + $300 for insurance Florida to Southampton. I'm relocating back to UK and I found it made more sense to ship to UK (LHD isn't an issue since I'll be using it in France mainly) than to sell it quickly (and cheaply in US). Prices in France are significanlty higher than in USA. Its a 2003 convertible and I think the color is called "smokey quartz" - it took me a year of looking to find one without a black leather interior (black is not good in Florida - the "Sunshine State"). I've been driving Jags for 25 years and this one is the best - I love it!
Cheers, RickDB

Rick;
Well by all means come on by then when you are banging around France.
We are just outside of Geneva, south of the lake on the French side.
I am a fan of light interiors myself...and I like that Gun Metal Grey/Smokey Quartz that was my first color choice....
I know what you mean I gave up looking in Europe when I noticed the US/UK prices were a two thirds to half as much as the EU.
That is a great price...I am going to check them out myself...though I am not sure I should trust a classic car with out door handles to RO/RO.
jj
XKR?
Post some photos?

You're not kidding. The main reason I went back to the UK to get my XKR is that they are literally half the price, plus 99% of XKs over here in France seem to be either black or silver with black interiors, which I don't care for.

Frog;
yep used car prices in France are ridiculous, I was actually looking in Germany, Spain and Italy but they were all higher than the UK for XKR's by 30-50%. Though Spain and Italy are about the lowest after the UK for used cars.
Dibbet;
The Italian Super Model wife and I have had some fine times in Mumbles over the years.
Including the time I got caught on the Worm's head by the tide and waded back to the mainland. Only time I have ever seen waves breaking on both sides of me that were higher than my head. That is a fast tide.
But that is one of the best beaches in all of Europe if not the world there, especially when the tide is out and you have half a mile of flat sand for miles.
I have always wanted to rent the National Trust house, the only house on all of that beach, above the beach there.
What's the attraction to Spain compared to that? Sunshine more than three days a year is vastly overrated.....hahaha.
cheers,
jj

@Frog, I am slightly confused. How did it pass the CT in the first place if the headlights were wrong?
Agree 100% with all of you. Used car prices over here are ridiculous. Earlier in the year someone offered me an XJ40 for €6500, he was a bit miffed when I explained that I could easily pick up 8 in the UK for that kind of money, or even a couple of early XK8's.
Doubt that this will help you guys at the moment, but I have had very good experiences with parts from 'piecesavenue.com, they are more than happy to discuss things over the phone, and make follow up calls for tracking/delivery, even to the point where they have phoned me a couple of weeks after delivery to make sure I was satisfied and that everything was working as it should.
