"grinding" noise from the front end??
I am hearing a "grinding" from the front end. Unfortunately, it isn't continuous, though it is getting more frequent. Usually, it is worst when the car is cold, and goes away after a few minutes of driving. It SOUNDS like I am dragging a branch under the front end, which is initially what I thought I was doing, as I recently moved to a woody area, and the car is now parked outside as opposed to under a cover. (leaves are a HUGE problem) It only happens while moving, and doesn't APPEAR to be impacted much by speed. At least the pitch and volume doesn't seem to change. It only happens when the car is in motion. If I had to guess, not being a mechanic, I'd say that the front axle needed lubrication (do they even do that anymore?), or something is trapped in the brakes, though I can't see anything. Today, for the first time, the noise came back when the car was warm. I'd take it straight to a mechanic, but as the sound is only intermittent, I can't guarantee he'd hear it. The car idles/runs smoothly, and only a few squeaks/rattles, especially for a 10 year old car. I don't BELIEVE it is a transmission issue, but I guess it could be. Has anyone experienced similar issues?? What can I do myself (I'm pretty handy, but I'm no mechanic) or have a mechanic do for me to test/troubleshoot? I don't want to simply leave the car, have the guy tell meI need a new front axle (or whatever) and find out 6 months or 6 years later that all I really needed to do was grease the axle.

It sounds as if...
Just a suggestion...
Your pads are touching when the wheel/disc is cold, and as they warm up they expand/move apart. I had that occur on another car (not a Jag). If that is your issue, bleeding your brake fluid (putting new fluid in your brake lines) may solve your problem. It's easy to do yourself and is an inexpensive way to try as a fix. Plus, it never hurts to put in new brake fluid.
Old fluid is not as stable temperature wise as new fluid and can casue the calipers not to release as they should at all temperatures.
Good luck.
