‘97 XK8 conv rear window
Hiya, hoping to get idea of what I’m looking at cost, work, etc on the rear window rubber where window and ragtop come together. About 10” of rubber is loose. It’s doesn’t seem to be torn or cracked, just that it needs to have glass back in the rubber groove. I do have 3m black adhesive. But I can’t manipulate the rubber quite enough. I’m hearing that an auto upholsterer is needed(one who does ragtops), not body shop(who told me they send the convertibles out). So, any idea ballpark on cost if rubber doesn’t have to be replaced?
just budgeting, dont want rubber to get worse.
Hope ya’ all are staying safe.

Cindy, the rubber tends to get clogged up with debris. Get a stiff cleaning brush, tooth brush will do in a pinch. Some Dawn and water mixed and clean the channel of the rubber out and the area around the glass. Dry it off with a hair drier and then wipe it down with some denatured alcohol.
Now apply the sealer sparingly into the channel of the rubber and a small amount on the edge of the window. That kind of lubes it so it will push on the glass easier.
The big thing now is to start at the most flexible end and roll, note roll the seal onto the glass. When complete, pad it down with the edge of your hand or a wooden spoon.
Good luck.

I kind of hate when she comes by because there is about 100' of dirt that needs to be driven over. Her car is so nice I hate getting the dust on it.
Cindy: Will talk to you this week to see when it will work out for both of us to have you come over.

Dust and things
Thanks Wayne. I tried to fix this for Cindy once when when I was at her house. I did it quickly and it probably came out again. I think a quick bead of silicone on the glass side should help keep it in place and using my door removal tools to help put it back in place.

I may be OCD, but I kinda think the forum members must all be, to some extent. And OCD while driving a Jaguar still is awesome

I fixed an approximately 15 inch section of the rear window seal, but used a different adhesive (urethane). Worked great, has held for about two years with no issue.

See post #16 in the thread below. I'd clean like Wayne recommends above and then apply adhesive and roll the seal in without stretching. If you need to stretch, that will become obvious in the last couple of inches and you can stretch. It was a four hand operation, my adult daughter assisted.
