Congratulations on your new toy.
One thing you probably forgot to factor in is your increased dental bill. You will be grinning that much driving the Jag it will wear out your teeth.
I'd love to nip over and give it a test drive. Failing that you shall have to put up some photos of your new car with a nice backdrop. Enjoy it!

When it goes in for tyres, have a good look at the inside of the rims. They will need cleaning for a thorough inspection.
I had a 2005 XK8 4.2-S on Sepangs which spent the first six years in Ayr on the west coast of Scotland next to the Atlantic Ocean. It had some surface rust on the underside but not as extensive as your photos. However, the insides of the front wheel rims were badly corroding. They had to be stripped, repaired and refinished. The rears were affected too but not as much.
The car was fitted with aluminium Brembo brake calipers which also needed refurbishing where significant areas of the surface had just turned to powder.

JaegerJag and the new Toy!
JJ,
What a deal! What a deal! I just don't know how some people can be so Lucky! Here you are beating around asking questions about this and that and right there in your backyard you find the deal of the century! I can not believe you got that Beautiful XKR for $3,000.00! There should be a law against things like that..............
Well! That being said, JRabbit and I welcome you to the Black Coupe Club! We will need to have a get together with all 3 of them, say in Laguna Beach! I don't know how you will get your Coupe over here but as Lucky as you are, you will find a way!
You take good care of "Little Lovely" and enjoy!

thank you guys! I love the coupe style and have always thought the convertible (even though I usually love convertibles) was just a bit off in its lines, hearing comments like bath tub, coffin, or lady's car from various jag and car folks over the years
this is the first coupe I came across for sale, and I cannot believe how it cleaned up after a hand wash
I did track a 700 hp car mustang with a forged roush p51 engine w/ a 2.3L supercharger at Fontana a few years ago (purchased it on line, took it there, and then realizing it was not going to be OK on our crappy Hawaii roads, sold it out of a storage locker in Vegas) .......
cheers,

That would have been a steal at twice or three times the price--what were you thinking
The irony is that considering the pittance you spent on the car, you will get all sorts of admiring looks from folks figuring that you are some sort of mogul when you drive by in what most will think is some uber-exotic expensive vehicle.

I did that for my CD changer: Busted out my mid 1990's CD's and put them in the changer and relived what it was like to be a rich guy in the 90's... then the CD changer stripped and I was back to 2017.

update - I have put 1,500 miles on it - running great
so far:
- fresh oil & filter
- new tires (OEM Pirellis)
- front tie rods
- sway bar bushings
- front shock mount rebuild
- spray down of areas with Corrosion X (marine product, highly recommend)
hell of a fun car, tons of complements, fast (enough) and stock stereo including subwoofer sounds great!
into into for another $3k on top of purchase price not too bad.......... so far

sea air oxidation
Fantastic looking car. I agree that the wheels could be worth $3000; sounds like a deal for a low mile XKR!
But now I am concerned about my own 2001 XK8 coupe rusting. It was a Palm Springs, CA car [bought recently] - no rust and less than 40K miles. Now it’s covered and garaged about 1/2 km from the Oregon coast. The garage is on a bluff about 40 meters above sea level. It’s not humid, mostly cold and windy. Seldom foggy. Most days its garage door is not even opened.
Should I worry that the underside will rust just sitting in the garage? Any way to protect it? Thoughts?
