06 XK8 Grill Modification
I know there have been some posts about different grill upgrades. I just did mine, and when I mentioned it another post someone requested photos. So I thought I would start a new thread for it.
I have an 06 XK8 Victory Edition, Copper Black, Factory Chrome 19's with P-Zero Rossos.
I have added the Harman Kardon Drive & Play unit for the audio system, upgraded the fog lamps and changed the grill.
I bought the grill off E-bay several months ago used for around $100.00
The Grill is chromeplated, has mounting holes for US or Eurpoean front plates, it came with two steel mounting brackets a 1/2 dozen black screws, and two 9mm body panel screws.
I laid down under the car and removed the (2) 9mm screws on the underside outside edges that hold the chrome trim in the center of the opening in less that 5 minutes. The brackets that came witht he grill mounted using the same screws into the same location. And thentwoblack phillips mounted the grill to the brackets. This wasless than aten minute upgrade. And in the past couple of days I have gotten several compliments on the grill.

RE: 06 XK8 Grill Modification
Nice job. Now it looks just like XKR. But now the big question: are you going to bother with the front plate that they demand here in sunny Cal? I drove my 95 Vette without a front plate for 13 years. I had understood that this was one of those things that you got cited for generally only if being stopped for something else. Wrongo! Believe it or not some motorcycle cop hiding on Van Nuys Boulevard in the morning to catch folks doing shortcuts turns into residential streets (posted as no turns during certain hours) pulled me over SOLELY for no front plate (it must have been a slow morning for him). It ended up costing me about $25 and an hour or so of my time to correct this, including having to ruin the nice lines of the front of the Corvette with a stupid plate.
So I have had the XKR since August without a front plate (so far) and have been wondering if I should bother yet or just wait to be cited.
Doug
