**Im posting on my fathers account trying to get some help**
Im in the process of working on my Volkswagen this week and needed to move my fathers xk out of the grarge. It has been sitting for a while since he has relocated from GA to KY and I popped the hood to just check over it before I pulled it out. I coudlnt believe the condition of some of the rubber parts on his car but I guess its not really a surprise since the car is now 10 years old.
I was wondering if I could get some help on what else I should look for on the car that may need to be replaced and what I can do in the mean time to replace the badly worn strut mounts. Does anyone make aftermarket parts or is OEM the best to go with? About how much does it cost to get these replaced? I was thinking this would be an excellent fathers day gift for him.
My brother is also getting married at the end of June and I know this car will be what he drives to the wedding. So any other ideas on how to clean her up real good and drive even better would be a big help!
*****I have included two pictures of the mounts and the insulation under the hood that looks like it is melting, which will be number 1 to fix so we dont have any trouble of fire.*****
TIA

I'm sorry no one has replied to your questions. I'm certainly not the best qualified but I'll try on a few.
The upper bushing that you show a pic of looks no worse than mine on my 2000. If you take it apart, they should be replaced. No big job. Untill then, don't mess with it.
Is the battery right down? Trickel charge it up and see how well it holds a charge.
Good cleaning like a normal car with leather conditioner etc. will be fine.
Change the oil to a good synthetic with a new filter. If you don't want to pay Jag, go with Ford FL2021 for the filter.
Digging through the faq's here will reveal a wealth of info.
When you ask further questions you'll need to list year, and model and specific problem to get a decent answer.
Gus has pretty well written a book on the car and our good Rev has a series of howto videos.
Good luck.

I think BPI (Motorcars Ltd is the Retail part of the company) has the upper mounts for the XK in some sort of replacement rubber composition. It is supposed to replace the spongy foam and last longer.
I have not tried yet but I talked to my sales guy and he said it was a good replacement.

2001 Jaguar XK8 Shock and Strut Mount | Car Stuff
These are the front shock mounts, need to be changed. For sure the rears will also. Check on ebay, sometimes you can find there cheaper.

You probably aren't aware of the porblem with the cam chain tensioners on 4.0 liter engines. But if they haven't been replaced with metal tensioner parts, or at least the upper ones you have a time bomb waiting to go off with that many miles. If they fail you will have a very expensive repair job that could be as much as the car is worth. Running the car, or just starting the engine should not be done until you know that this work has been done. If it hasn't, replacing at least the upper tensioners would be the greatest gift you could give your dad. A good speciality shop can do the job well and at less money than a dealer. I replaced mine my self and posted pictures.
Do a search on tensioners and read all you can about this problem. This is very important to not drive the car until they have been replaced. I know of a 2000 XK8 with 74,000 miles that had tensioner failure and it cost $8,500.00 at a speciality shop to fix. A dealer is more expensive. That is why a lot of us DIY before failure.
Hope this helps.

I will check this out, any good spots online to order a kit to do the replacement? How hard would you say it is? I have done a lot of work on VWs so I'm thinking about attempting it if I have your DIY to guide me.
Thank you for the reply and info that would certainly be the best gift
Also thank you for the link to the new strut mounts, expensive but should set me in the right path to buying some.

There is tons of info in this thread, including Ford equivalent part numbers and online Ford dealers for great pricing on the tensioners:

This site says you need to be concerned through A24195:

You my be OK if that is the case. If it was me, I would at least take off the valve covers and inspect them to be sure.

I could be wrong but I believe the problem applies to all 4.0 engines. My car was a 2000 and it had the second generation tensioners which were still made of plastic and were in the early stages of failure at 40,000 miles. I replaced them with the latest metal ones, upper ones only. Later I may go back in and replace the main ones also. Replacing the main ones is a very big job that requires special tools.
Even pulling the cam covers is not a real simple job. I ran into a couple of problems that took some time to solve. Please search my id and view my write up and there are ten pictures showing all detail. Even replacing the upper ones is not real simple. You also need a good quarter inch drive torque wrench and socket set with a universal. It is really tight in there. And maintaining cam timing is absolutely mandatory. Two slips on the chain sprocket an you've had it. To fix that could be more than the car is worth.
If you want to contact me directly please do. I have just finished that job.
