I've seen them, too. But I think I know why people don't drive them; the dealer with the Lotus also had a couple of Ferraris, including one of the 308's like on Magnum PI. I sat in the 308 and it was without a doubt the most uncomfortable seat I've ever sat it. It had TOO much lateral support and it squeezed my hips together like you would not believe. I don't even think my *** made contact with the seat because hips were squeezed together two inches above the seat. I have a size 34 waist, so the seat must have been designed for a teenager with a small ***.

govatos, I recall looking into buying a Ferrari a few years ago. I had a roommate back in the 80's who had one like on the Magnum series. (cost him a fortune to keep up!) When I started calling people, and looking into it, I was told that it had to have a tuneup and maintenance every few thousand miles that cost something like $1200. In other words, they are VERY expensive to drive! (none of us are Brad Pitt)

Hi Kev,
Not so much peg out as level out. Not sure how other members would describe it. But the car feels like it will just go and go untill the limiter cuts in. The first time I done it it cut in just below 160 mph. The second time I done it I took my foot off at 155mph. Buy the way my car is a coupe. There is no way I would do it in a rag top.

Sam, have you looked at the maintainence costs if you take your Jag to a dealer? Admittedly, Ferrari costs are higher, but not by all that much. And depending upon where you live, there are some indy shops that will work on them. Plus, just like the Jag, you can do some of the work yourself....it's still just a car. I looked into buying an F360 and the deal breaker was the resale value. Put 30 or 40,000 miles on a Ferrari and you've killed its resale value because your competing a bunch of other cares with less than 10k. It's sad that the economics turn these great cars into garage queens.

I wanted to revive this thread, and see if in the past few months anyone has been pushing their limits (limiters)?
I am curious for the convertibles, what people are finding the max speed to be? I find that with the top down, acceleration over 125 slows way down. I think my top speed so far with the top down is just a hair under 130. Not that I have had the opportunity to run the car all the way out, just thats about as fast as I get before road runs out.
I have been doing a lot of late night driving over the past few months, and even out here in Los Angeles on the 405 freeway you can get the opportunity to drive in triple digits. The car is a great performer in the 75 to 115 range. But when I am out in the middle of nowhere and have some space I don't get the feeling that with the top down the limiter can be reached.
And I never seem to have these opportunities with the top up. So top up I have probably only hit 115. Of course one of the benefits to living in Los Angeles is that here it is November and I drove home tonight at 11:30pm and it was 78 degrees out.
Anyone else doing bad things on the roads at night ?

It's childish but I was racing a 05' Mustang GT one day, he backed off at 130mph i went all the way to the end. According to the speedo and GPS 157MPH before I hit the rev limiter and car slowed down.
Good old days before I broke it. Actually that was the night I blew the head gasket, because of cracked coolant tank.

Just as an example of what happens when you get caught having fun with your car on the public roadways. This guy was caught speeding at a meager 110 on I-405 in Kirkland Washington in May 2010. He was lucky that he wasn't thrown in jail... at the scene the officer chose not site him for reckless endangerment as there were no other cars on the freeway!
"Singer Sanjaya Malakar has been fined for speeding after he was pulled over in his car near Seattle, Washington.
The former American Idol contestant, who appeared on the show in 2006, was stopped by Washington State Patrol officers at around 2.30am on Tuesday after he was clocked racing down the highway at 110 miles-an-hour (177 kilometres-an-hour). The 20 year old was cited and fined $411."
I can attest to the fact my XJR and I'm sure XKR's can get to 110 in a matter of seconds. Accelleration from 70 to 100 is quite breathtaking and 110 comes quickly thereafter. My current top speed is 127 and I probably won't do that again, simply for the cost associated with the possible ticket / arrest!

All I can say is that my top speed in the car was the first time I ever drove it. I have always loved the XK series so honestly when I went to drive it I was expecting it to be a disappointment but I took the car to 115 mph with the top down and it felt like it would fly to the moon the power was so good I couldn't say no, I had to buy it. The other thing I was impressed with at those speeds with the top down the stereo sounds fantastic, it is just too much fun.
