1997 XK8 18" tyres (Australia)
Hi all,
This is my first post on the XK8 Forum though I've had it for ages, generally I'm posting on the older forums for my Double Six.
Just wondering if there is a recommended tyre for my 97 XK8 with 18" wheels? I am in Australia.
I would prefer not to pay a fortune for an absolute top shelf tyre but would rather something mid range that is reasonable value for money
with thanks
Al

I was for many years very wary of "cheap" tyres but have run a "cheap" tyre of chinese origin (Hero Atlantas) on my XJRS for about 3 years and have nothing but praise for them. They are quiet, seem to be wearing well, good grip in both wet and dry conditions and are the correct load and speed rating for the vehicle.

Hello Alan, and greetings from the north.
May I suggest that this is a question perhaps best served by asking in the NSW & ACT Regional section, however I have 2 suggestions as follows . . .
First, my go-to supplier is Tempe Tyres, with whom I have no affiliation other than as a satisfied customer of numerous sets of tyres for my litter. They advertise on the 'Bay, are located in Sydney where they offer free balancing & fitting, or will arrange o/night freight to you at very reasonable rates. Their last online quote to me for a full set of Pirelli Pzeros was for a staggering $1,000+ less than any local (Inverell) supplier.
Secondly however, your budget may not run to P Zeros, and I believe that there is a far better high performance tyre now being offered - the Kumho Ecsta K31 which is also a 99Y rated asymmetric. My R rated XK8 wears the far wider and larger 20" BBS rims, and these Kumhos show a performance at least equal to the P Zeros, but with noticeably better wear . . . still the Achilles Heel of the latter.
I just checked to find their price (balanced & fitted) is about $900 for set of 4 in your size. Yell, or PM me if you require further.
Best wishes,
Ken
