I believe that the Variable Timing connection in the AJ26 connects through the front Timing Cover (Not the Valve Cover as in the AJ27). So the kit would be usable and the AJ27 Variable Timing Seals would not be used.

AJ27 cam cover seals will NOT work on an AJ26 - neither the cover seal nor the spark plug seals will work. I've gerry rigged 26s to work (and seal) on a 27 once in an emergency (took over 2 hours of trimming and fiddling), but changed to the correct 27 seals as soon as I could acquire them.

Quickest way to describe the differences is by picture.

Take a look at the pictures of the cam cover seal sets #2 and #3.
#2 is for the AJ26 - the AJ26 cam cover seals (blue/red) are thicker and the cam cover is molded with a wider/deeper groove. The spark plug seals are "figure 8s" with corresponding cover molded to accept this config. These also are thicker.
#3 is the AJ27 - smaller diameter seals with matching groove in the AJ27 cover. Locator tabs are in a slightly different position, the spark plug seals are individual.
Using an AJ27 seal set on an AJ26 cam cover will "swallow" the smaller seal and not allow an oil barrier. Same for the spark plug seals. And, the locator tabs will have to be trimmed and removed because they will not locate to the AJ26 mold.
