1998 Jaguar XK8 Engine Swap
I had a previous thread where I came to the conclusion that I would need to install a new engine in the Jag...
I will not install any engines which are related to the Nikasil crisis.
Can I buy a used 2001 Jaguar XK8 engine and install it in my 1998 Jaguar XK8?
The VVT unit connections are different. Which other connecting points would need modification?
Would the transmission line up flawlessly?
Thanks in advance for considerations.
Sincerely,
ME!

Nikasil is NOT a problem now that the high sulfur fuel has been banned.
The ONLY way you are going to get a cast liner or steel liner block is to do it yourself (machine shop) or find a factory replacement engine from around 2003.
You can find an AJ27 engine and swap parts until you have the AJ26.
The AJ26 to AJ27 engine swap has been BEATEN TO DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OkieJagDad,
Well you're moving at a better pace than previously (9 years ago).
+1 to Motorcarman - If you want a better fit up, with less hassle, find a reconditioned AJ26 engine. Will you get any warranty/guarantees with the new engine?
If you drop a AJ27 engine in, there's obvious wire harnesses' issues, and maybe even an ECU comms issue. Not sure the camshafts, CMPS, CPS sensors are the same, but I'm pretty sure the ZF transmission gearbox will fit into the engine block.
Maybe the plan will be to bast#%dize the AJ27 engine until you get a re-conditioned AJ26.
Just another thought, can you find a mechanic to strip and re-build your existing AJ26 engine? That'll take longer, but at least you already know that'll fit and work.
