1998 xk8 fuel filter - I'm baffled

Thanks for your comment. I d know from the service paperwork that the previous owner had the fuel pump replace earlier this year. Not sure f that matters? Where is the check valve located?

I got the new filter off by removing the old filter while under the car and plugging the line with my thumb. My wife handed me the new filter and with much consternation and covered with gasoline, I was able to tighten both ends of the new filter to stop all leaks. Just showered and will wait for the wet spot to dry before attempting to put the bracket back on! I’m now a little concerned that the tank could completely empty after an accident. I won’t change this filter again unless I pay someone!

The fuel pump has an internal check valve (built-in).
The return line has one at the return line input on the tank bottom so that line can be removed when removing the tank with some fuel in it.
You can install a second check valve in the fuel pump-to-pipe hose in the tank.
aholbro1 did this to his X300 (Same fuel pump setup as the X308/X100) because his fuel pump check valve failed.
You would need to remove the EVAP flange to access the pump/hose (Cut hole or 'tank-out') to install the second check valve.
