Default 1st Blackstone Oil Analysis

just got the results from the first Blackstone Oil Analysis done on my '02 XKR. Since I frequent the upper rpm regions whenever possible, I'm not overly concerned with the elevated levels of aluminum and iron, The next oil change and subsequent oil analysis will let me know if there's a trend I need to be aware of.
this is from a screen shot:
number are in parts per million (PPM). More precise than cutting open an oil filter, huh !

it was nice to see that the additive package (of zinc & phosphorus) in the Mobil 1 0w-40 was barely depleted from the oil as compared to new oil. Also, no gas or antifreeze contamination,

excerpts from a follow up letter from Blackstone in reply to some of my questions:

".......It's possible the higher-RPM driving had something to do with the extra metal, and like we mentioned in the comments, we'll know more about what to expect from your Jag as trends build. This is only the first snapshot, so it's early to make any calls about mechanical issues.

This Mobil 1 oil worked just fine. The viscosity was right where it should be, so the oil didn't break down, and we wouldn't blame it for the extra metal.

300,000-400,000 miles can be a reasonable goal nowadays, so I wouldn't say that's just wishful thinking.

Any wear-in from the metal tensioner upgrade should be pretty much gone, as long as there's been a couple oil changes since then.

Moving forward, we'll just be looking for your metals to stabilize or show improvement. If you get either outcome, then this Jag should be in good shape. Feel free to call 260-744-2380 if you have more questions before the next sample......"

and I asked about the usefulness of oil filter magnets:

".....We haven't found that magnets make a noticeable difference, for better/worse, but there's no harm in trying one...."

curious as to what oil filter you use as this can make a difference in the detected solids. personally i use the champion labs filters, they supply Royal Purple and Amsoil and a few other high end labels. these are glass core and are rated for smaller particle size.

I've used only this one since I've owned the car (3 oil changes), and the same type was on the car when I bought it in January 2018.

I don't know who makes it for Jaguar, but I bet someone on the forum knows. Prior to the XKR purchase I have been using Mobil 1 branded filters exclusively for the last 20 - 25 years. They are well made, and I've never had any trouble with them. But from what I've found out, they discontinued the filter they made that fit the Jaguar. It someone knows a Mobil 1 filter part number that works on the early XKR, I'd love to hear about it.

I do have a MotorCraft filter that I keep with my emergency parts box in the trunk, (#2120 ?? from memory, so not sure of the part number ??). It is supposed to cross reference with the Jag filter, but is a little shorter.

no. I paid an extra $10 for the TBN test:

PS

I’ve had 5 subsequent Blackstone oil analysis done, (every 2nd or 3rd oil change), and none of them show any measurable levels of iron, aluminum, or any other metal.

In fact, I’ve been told by Blackstone that I can safely extend my oil change intervals, but still am reluctant to mess with a winning strategy. At the 5,000 mile mark I have about 50% of the Mobil 1 0w-40 additive package still in the oil.

To me, that sounds like a nice safety margin.
