Thanks for that, at least I can make some use of my new cable when it arrives then...!
Made some progress tonight - I installed Winamp and turned the PREAMP right up. It meant that the output stayed switched during the start of both 'Money for Nothing' and 'Won't get fooled again' but it did give me some distortion/crackle through the speakers... Tried adjusting all the levels including the graphic equaliser, turning the PREAMP up and down, adjusting the software Volume controls and the stereo volume, treble and bass, but no real joy. If the preamp or Eq was turned down enough to stop the distortion, it would cut out again. So it now sort of works as is, but not to Audiophile stnadard!
Got me wondering though, if I installed an LD10 line driver, would this do the same thing (i.e. cause distortion) or does the method used/clever hardware prevent this?
Cheers,
MB

Then I just listened to your music and I am surprised there is a problem with sources such as this.
So I guess am a bit at a loss as to whether the LD-10 will solve your problem now. I guess the cable might be your best bet.

Hey White!
Finally managed to get a break from my twins to try out the theories...
I can confirm, straight AI net male>phono cable into the amp doesn't work (funnily enough! - as expected, no CD input kills AI Net)
Tried the LD10, no joy - it worked in terms of boosting the signal above the threshold on the quiet stuff - but was then overdriven for the louder stuff/different albums which gave distortion - there was no happy medium I could get to - I tried all various settings on both the LD10 and the software and was unable to get it high enough to work for quiet stuff, but low enough not to distort for everything else
Am going to go down the custom splice male-female cable route, inserted between the CD changer and the amp I think... means no CD music, but I'm not bothered as I'll be on MP3s all the time and can just remove the custom cable to restore original boot changer functionality. It should however sort the quiet passages issue as it will be permanently 'switched'

![Question](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/icons/icon5.gif)
Over on the XJ forum, the members are talking about a 2012 Nav update disc sold by iOffer for $56 that works in their Alpine Nav systems. I have seen no reference to the iOffer update disc on this forum. Has anyone had any experience with the update disc sold by these people in your 1999 to 2006 model XK8's?

JAG-CDR iPod Adapter with CD Changer Retention for Select Jaguars :: iPod Adapters & Interfaces
This looks like a plug and play solution, but they've been out of stock for a couple of months. I contacted the company and was told that they'd be back in stock in a week or two, but that was about a month ago...
I'm thinking maybe its time for a new head unit with Bluetooth and a back up camera, too bad though, stock Harmon Kardon with factory sub and CD changer was quite nice. I may even cut off the useless factory phone at the same time, although the kids like playing with it in the backseat. I'm just grateful that the original owner opted out of the GPS option, the gauges are prettier to look at, even if they are largely placebo's
