Tensioners not always make a noise. If I were you, 1st. thing to do are tensioners and thermostat.

Agree, DON'T WAIT FOR THE KNOWN ISSUES TO HAPPEN. Get out in front of that ball if your wallet allows you too. Ganna be cheaper upfront then down the road when a issues comes up and causes more damage.
The dealer, well I would not take his word. Do the tensioners replacement soon as you can. History from folks here and my own personal exper is that you get LITTLE noitce from the tesioners when they go, if you lucky that is not going 60 mph. PLEASE fix them now. Hell if your just buzzing around town in it and not going on the HWY, wait on the tires and fix those tensioners.
Second all the rest as far as changing out the fluids. Reading between the lines you never had Tensioner issues with your other car?????
Otherwise, drive it, they like to be used, sitting is not this cars best friend I think.

Besides the above, I would change out the coolant hoses. Does the AC work?

From everything I've read in this forum and from other sources, lack of use is the most harmfull thing with our cars. Dry starts are an engine killer. The same goes for all the other moving parts that get lubricated by their fluids. Example water pumps, brake cylinders, Hydraulic top pistons. I would change all fluids and drive the heck out of the car. Enjoy, Jack

Oh, something else. When we bought our '07 xtype the saleman gave us some very smart advice. He said use the car. Use all the buttons and switches. Move the seats. Manually change the temp. settings. Use the air-conditioner for a while in the winter and heater in summer. Keep stuff moving and there is less of chance of something sticking. Jack

Tires/Tensioners/Waterpump/Thermostat. Great score on a low mileage beautiful car. Enjoy to the max.

Nce Kty;

Congrats on your find, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do mine. My only concern would be your Dealer's suggestion to 'leave the tensioners until they start making noise". Mine were both split in half upon replacement this spring, and there was no 'warning noise' whatsoever. It's not a case of 'if' your tensioners will fail, but 'when'! Don't take the chance.

About tensioners, be careful, sometimes they make the noise, sometimes not. Better change now for your peace of mind, better investment you can made on your machine. Agree with others about tires, change of fluids, etc. Enjoy your new car!!!

The early XK8 models had roof hydraulic fluid that, over time, can gel and cause real problems. I don't know when the problem was solved and from which VIN you are safe - but if you are not sure it seems important to add that as one of the jobs.

Maybe others can give further information on this - how to identify the early fluids, or when that fluid was no longer used.
