Hello, this will be My first how to post, hope will help. Just completed the job this weekend and estimate in a scale of 1 to 3 a mechanics ability of 2.
TOOLS REQUIRED
1-T-40 Torx
2-5/8 Crow Feet
3-12'' to 20'' extension
4-Patience
PROCEDURE
1-Disengage old hose from bottom flange with the #40 Torx, be prepare to collect the liquid and You will decide the removing of the X cross member.
2-Use the 5/8 Crow feet to remove the other end of the hose at the underneath of the pump.
3-Be aware that the new hose (MJB3985AB) requires a new route, go to photo 1.
4-Just connect everything back and remember to always use original liquids to maintain the systems working correctly.
Happy Holidays,
Franco

I replaced the high-pressure hose and had great difficulties mounting it to the steering pump. The union nut wouldn't catch the thread. My solution was eventually to buy a 38 cm long crow bar and cutting the opening in the 90-degree end to about 11 mm width. This allows a nice fit around the 10 mm diameter pipe just below the union nut that goes into the pump. I put the pipe into the pump and maneouvered the crow bar jaw from below the car to fit around the pipe just below the nut.
And then I took my garage jack, put it below the bottom end of the crow bar and jacked it up to give a good pressure on the pipe nut to push it into the threads to get it started when using a short 16 mm U-spanner on the nut (from above). This worked well for me.
My hands are quite sore from all the work in the very crammed space of the pipe union. I didn't have the 16 mm crow foot on a long extender - that is the proper way way to get sufficient torque. l But I have bought a crow foot set now,. and when I get it I will make sure to get the right torque on the union nut.

Hi Hernandez_F
Thanks for this post. Without this I probably would have taken my XK8 to a shop and had it done, but it was actually an easy job. My most difficult task was actually removing the old T40 Torx at the steering column end. My 1/4 socket wrench with the T40 was too big to enable the Torx to go in "square", and the bolt was so tight that I was afraid of stripping the Torx head on the bolt if I did not go in square. Solved this problem by
a) applying a 50/50 mix of acetone and ATF to the bolt and letting it soak (works like magic - a tip from my local hardware store)
b) just using the T40 bit, with a 1/4 ring wrench and an improvised long handle to get some leverage.
Everything else went perfectly. I bought a Crowsfoot wrench set and, with the long extenders, this really made the pump end very easy.
Thanks for the pictures showing the hose routing!!

Guys, great info!
Mine is a 2003 xk8. I've looked around on different threads but I don't see anything how to correctly remove the other line from the hose that goes to the cooler. I would call it the upper end of the return/low pressure line off the steering rack. Is there a special tool? It's some type of snap fitting. Also, Since you mentioned that some are torx bolts and some are hex head bolts on the steering rack, anyone see a problem with changing anything you can change to hex head bolts? I'm tired of spinning the inside out of the torx.![Icon Viking](https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_viking.gif)

Just changed my pressure hose last night. Not a bad job, the pictures were a great help installing the new rerouted hose. I also found it helpful to have the left front tire off (did a brake job at the same time anyway). My biggest challenge was finding a 16mm crow foot. I ordered a metric set from my local ACE hardware store and when it finally showed up, the only size it didn't have was a 16mm.

Thanks to Franco for posting those wonderful photos. I had routed the new hose above instead of below an A/C tube, and that made it impossible to connect the hose to the rack. The photos showed me the way. Thanks very much!!
