Exclamation 2000 XK8 Throttle body

I have a faulty throttle body on my jaguar and have priced up a new one and they are 900 plus VAT
I enquired about a reconditioned one at a specialist and they mentioned about a throttle body modification on the plugs and you can get a gold plated terminal connecter that cures a lot of the throttle bodys

Does anybody know anything about these?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum FastLane,

Sorry to hear about your TB issues. These generally fail because of the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) which is not a Jaguar replaceable part. Reading the DTC's will confirm the issue with your TB.

Default Check your connectors first!

Welcome to the forum!

Throttle bodies are often rebuilt rather than replaced. The throttle body on your XK8 supports an air injection system to aid in combustion and is unique to just a few model years. Of course, it is more expensive and harder to find.

Different rebuilders have different approaches to handling the TPS and other sealed components. I had mine rebuilt - the sealed components were opened, reconditioned and resealed - and have had flawless performance ever since.

Before you get too far, however, check the condition of the throttle body electrical connections and the connectors themselves. On my car the largest connector on the throttle body felt as if it had seated properly but would work lose ever so slightly and create a host of electrical problems. Turns out that the little internal clip in the connector itself had broken off and it simply could not hold itself to the throttle body. I fixed that with a small screw set through the outer shell of the connector and into the female side of the plug. I have not had a problem since. This is an easy DIY task.

Now I wonder if I ever really needed a rebuild... It's true, though, that there are wear components in the TPS and nothing lasts forever so maybe it was a good idea.

Replacing the connector wires with the gold plated kit is expensive and my dealer could not even source the kit. If your connections are not corroded I would pass on that approach, your problem likely lies elsewhere.

Good luck!

Default Source for Throttle Body

As an old-school guy, I like to clean my throttle body and replace the TPS every 30K miles. I learned on this forum that you can't buy a separate TPS for many recent Jaguar models, including my 04 S-Type. While searching for a TPS I came across a supplier in the UK who sells NEW throttle bodies at reasonable prices. For example, the TB for my Jag costs GBP 108 plus about GBP 30 for shipping to the US. That works out to about $220 delivered. The source is JustJagsUK.com. I hope this helps some of you guys who already have TPS trouble.

Carl,

Having previously replaced a TB on my 2001 XK8, I thought that sounded an extraordinary deal and checked JustJags UK website.

The 2004 S-Type TB is listed at £149 ($242). The XK8 TB is listed at £1101 ($1774). US buyers would get the 17.5% UK VAT subtracted from these costs.

The sooner Steve solves the replacement TPS for the XK8, the better!

GGG,

The price I cited for my S-Type came in response to my e-mail inquiry. It is probably quoted net of VAT. I don't know why it is different from their list price. Sorry you don't find good prices for your XK8. I agree, we really need a source for a separate TPS.

Carl,

That's it. The UK VAT which you wouldn't be charged makes the difference.

The terrifying disparity in cost between an S-Type and an XK8 TB was what initially caught my attention.

Absolutely. I went straight to the site thinking we had a sensible solution but no go.
The problem with the contactless version I've sourced is the initial setup cost.

I believe the the Denso TPS 198500-3300 is used on both the very expensive XK8 throttle body and the much cheaper one on the S-Type (see my earlier post in this thread for UK source). Would it not be possible to simply buy a new, cheaper, S-Type throttle body and cannibalize the TPS off it to put on your newly-cleaned XK8 throttle body? Just a thought. I'd love to hear if anyone has tried it.

Hi
There is a Throttle Position Sensor for 2003-2006 Lincoln LS on Ebay listing 261000543905 - Ebayer located in Florida $43.95 free shipping. Kinda looks like one on Jaguar Throttle body - mfg is Standard Motor Products -it has 4 pins show in photo.

I also found another one for 2001 Lincoln LS on Ebay listing 180923157948 - this one is located in New Jersey $44.67 and free shipping - Motorcraft DY967 Throttle Position Sensor. Found it on another website auto parts warehouse.com - says it fits 2000-2002 Lincoln LS 8 cyl 3.9L- also on oreilly auto.com where photo show only 3 pins for this TPS.
