2000 XKR tranny issues
Greetings. Any info appreciated.
My '99 XK8 was flooded/totaled recently, and I've found a 2000 XKR in great condition, as far as the interior/exterior go. However...
Upon test driving it, the acceleration was very disappointing. 11 secs to 60mph, and the transmission seemed...well...slow and confused, for lack of a better way to put it. Seemed like it took forever to reach high enough RPM to shift. I'd like to give better info, but lack the technical/mechanical vocabulary to do so. It may be some kind of software issue or may not even be the transmission, for all I know.
My questions are...worst case, how much would a transmission replacement cost, roughly? What about a full motor replacement, if it came to that? The current owner wants $6500 for the car (104k on the odometer), so I don't mind putting some money into it, as long as that's a reasonable option.
Anything else I should be thinking about? I doubt it's had the tensioners replaced, so I'd get that done.
Thanks,
BSM

Sounds like history is a little shy on this XKR and the performance isn't setting you on fire.
With good body and interior, it's worth following up but anything on the engine / transmission from your test drive findings is going to be speculation.
Any chance of getting a code reader on it to see what's stored?
