2001 XK8 Cranks Won't Start
New member to this forum, but so far I have found a wealth of information. Hoping to get some more. Have a 2001 XK8 convertible. Just replaced the battery after a long winters nap and everything was running smooth. Came back after driving it about 40 minutes yesterday and wanted to run out again when I ran into problems.
First she started but was sputtering and idling real low - just barely running, frankly I was thinking maybe bad gas. I was able to move it about 10 feet before the engine stalled. Now it will crank but not turn over. Almost turns over, but can't quite get there. Not much of a car guy frankly, but am willing to work LOL - just hoping someone can point me in the right direction on where to begin spending my weekend.

ok, following the info you guys provided, I opened up the nipple on the fuel rail, used a phillips head to press and no fuel came out. I tried this both with the car sitting quiet and with my wife trying to start it - nothing both times. So, this appears to be in line with the problem being fuel related. From reading what you all have been kind enough to provide, it looks like my next steps are to replace the gas in the tank / replace the fuel filter. Should I try and do the fuel filter first or just go ahead and do both? The gas has been in that tank at least 6 months. This year I have started the car 3 times and driven maybe a total of 45 minutes before this problem started and the car won't start. Again, I am a novice at car repair, but am enjoying the learning, so I appreciate any advice.

Ok, so listening in the trunk when my wife turns the key to start and I do hear a short whirring. Put starter fluid in the intake pipe and it did turn over and start (albeit real rough) for about 8 seconds. So, it seems I am looking at a fuel pump problem, as I don't get any fuel coming out when I press down on the fuel pressure regulator with a screw driver.
Have read quite a bit on this forum and others about replacing the fuel pump including http://www.gusglikas.com/images/Auto...eplacement.pdf but frankly I think this is beyond my skill set LOL. So any final advice before I call for a tow? Is it worth me replacing the fuel filter first or does this look like all $ign$ are pointing to the fuel pump? Your advice is welcome!
I am going to go ahead and look at the fuses and relay today, but this is where I am at.

I went to the local auto store and told them I was looking for a fuel pressure gauge and he started pulling out the catalog with $500 kits. Maybe i am explaining things to him wrong? Told him I wanted a gauge I could put on the fuel pressure regulator (even said it looks like a tire stem valve) but he's a clueless as I am - what they heck am I missing here?

Thanks for the link, I went ahead and ordered one. Autozone had an 18 year old kid and a 50 year old woman working - she's the manager. Neither had a clue as to what I was talking about. All they know is what is in the computer LOL.
The guy at NAPA said the only one's he knew of were the expensive kits and they'd have to order it. He's convinced Jaguars take something special. There are other auto parts places I can get to within 20 - 30 miles, but having tried to call a couple - and not gotten anywhere, I'd rather just buy it online.
There's only one place near me (within 50 miles) that claims to service jaguars - have been lucky enough to never use them (have had the car 3+ years so knock on wood) and the place I normally take my other vehicles recently closed up shop. So its just easier to spend the $20 than try and hunt someone down. I really appreciate the input folks - will let you know what happens when I get it. Thanks!!
