Default 2001 XK8 seat control module

My driver's-side seat control doesn't work. I understand the passenger and driver side modules are interchangeable. Isn't it relatively easy to remove the Jaguar seats with just four TORX head screws. Can I get the passenger seat in the position that I would like it, then take off the seats and put the passenger side module on the driver's side. Then put the seats back and I should be able to control my driver's seat and have my passenger seat in a fixed position (I can then send that my module to someone to see if it can be repaired.) Does anyone know if this will work? How hard is it to remove the seats, I have a convertible.

Before ripping out modules, try disconnecting the multiplug(s) under the drivers seat, spray with contact cleaner, reconnect and give the seat a try. It might be something simple. I occasionally have to do the same to mine.
Good luck.

Your theory will work as a temporary fix to get a moveable driver's seat whilst the module is away for repair.

The seats are secured with four torx screws - one at the end of each rail:

The problem comes if your driver's seat is fixed in such a position that you can't access all four.

It's possible to remove/refit the module with the seat in place but difficult to see the fixing nuts. Easier when you know what you're 'feeling' for! This is my 2005 XK8 but the setup is similar:

A regular issue is broken module lids (broken lid on the module with replacement on the left):

You may find the module lying loose on the floor.

Yes you can swap the modules around, done it. After all the work I discovered it was a blown fuse. On my 99 there are two fuses that control the seat modules, don't recall which ones but the one I missed was listed as like the third item it controlled.
You can remove the modules without removing the seat by removing the 4 screws that hold it in, unplugging it and it is fiddly. The cost of a used relay is outrageous and is no longer available from the network.

Thanks for all the responses. I should have been more specific. I think something is wrong with the module because some seat buttons work but most don't. It's gotten worse and created a problem. Right now, the problem is the drivers seat reclined all the way back but will not come forward. I am actually driving around with a milk crate with a comforter wrapped around it in the back seat to hold up my driver seat into a usable position. The drivers side module is already loose and already comes out from under the seat. It appears to be damaged.I don't know what happened to it's screws. I have owned the vehicle for 8 years. Is there a video showing how to remove the module without having to remove the seat?

The no reclining function is a common indicator for a broken trace on the outer edge of the module circuit board.
You should be able to reach under the seat from the from and using a 10 MM wrench remove the fasteners holding the module. There is enough slack to pull the module forward and disconnect it. Put the passenger seat where you want it and then remove the passenger seat module and insert it in the drivers side. If that restores the functions then you will need to have the module repaired.
The go to guy is Darrell Turner 858-649-9090, give him a call or text and he can repair the module. He has repaired modules for my XK8 and XJ8.

The fixings will most likely ripped out of the module lid and still be attached to the bracket. See the last photo in my post #3. Left to right are bracket - new lid - module with broken lid.

I can't recall seeing a video on the removal procedure. If the module is still attached, undo the two 10mm fixings holding the bracket to the seat frame (arrowed red photo 2 in post #3), pull the module forwards and release the harness connectors at the rear. If it's loose under the seat with broken fixings just ease it forwards and release the harness connectors.

Follow Vern's advice for a recommended repairer or you can check for broken traces yourself.

Graham,

The seats work just fine on my '01 XKR however the passenger side seat module is loose under the seat with the cover being broken exactly as shown in your photo. Any ideas on where one could obtain a replacement cover only? Thanks.

I have two replacement covers. Last year I created a 3D model of them for a friend. Made 10 on my 3D printer. He took 8. Have 2 left.

Contact me through PM. I can also point you to a company in Sarasota that repairs these modules for about $50 plus postage.
